Kinda sad to think our old LVs going to become some choice paperweights in the future. Hopefully the parts Jack-O listed would be readily available in the future to keep these kitties purring well into the future.

I’d assume a hard no - that would be incredibly cost prohibitive and would likely lead to some tech support headaches.

More than any other gun that I have seen... LV owners seem to be the most attached to their markers.

I understand the new power requirements for the new solenoid, but I don’t know if the 1.6 warrants enough Change for 1.1 and 1.5 owners to upgrade to get the new solenoid... jack even said it himself. So instead of missing out on sales for all the 1.5 owners who love their guns, they could get a lot of sales on lower upgrade kits.

That had to know this would be a rough point with their consumers.

By the time that pre-LV1.6 markers are *dead* and there are no more solenoids available, used LV1.6's will be available for under $300.

Why are we even talking about this?

When they changed "superficial" things the feedneck and even the asa people were interested in swapping them up. Boggling why anyone would like to swap up to a self maintenance non-discontinued noid... and why would we talk about it on its reveal post?

Jack: It's a new solenoid and won't fit older guns due to money/tech/engineering issues.

Everyone else: Hey Jack, can we put it on our older guns?

Jack actually explained that you can do the swap yourself and helpfully listed all the components you would need to do so...

I absolutely understand why people would want the new and improved solenoid, and I don’t blame anyone for asking for it. It’s just not backwards compatible, and the amount of items requiring replacement to make it work makes the cost and time impractical for both the manufacturer and the majority of their customers.

I currently have a LV 1.5. Is there anything I can do to increase the longevity of the solenoid?

Maybe remove the regulator, put a few drops of oil in the ASA, reinstall the regulator and shoot it a few times. Yes I know you shouldn't dry fire the LV without back pressure. I would shoot it into a towel with the barrel removed so there will be some back pressure. This should lightly lubricate the solenoid in theory. I don't know if doing this would help at all?

Is there anything else that could/should be done to help maintain the solenoid?

I’m not sure I would recommend that. But a PE tech can tell us for sure.

I would just keep feeding her paint and enjoying her.

I haven't and won't unless someone from PE recommends it. I didn't know the LV solenoid was an issue. If there is anything I can do to increase its longevity I will do it.

How much does a LV solenoid cost to replace and are there plenty of them still available?

I will and I am not worried. Just curious if there is any maintenance that can be done to help improve its life.

What’s the failure rate of the old solenoids? I’m curious as to what constitutes a “high” failure rate in PE’s eyes.

Good question. I have seen plenty of ones that seem to be lasting forever but have also seen the sad faces from a few that have gone down. I can tell you that if this new SMC is anything like the other SMCs though, it will probably last a lifetime (especially with a serviceable spool).
