Anyway, they've all grown huge over the years. We've got a 1994 Ford F350 and a 1996 Dodge 3500 and they look the same way when you put 'em next to their newer brethren. Between the increased safety standards, the towing/horsepower numbers war, and CAFE numbers that favor bigger trucks; it's a wonder they aren't any bigger than they already are.
It is kinda funny when you look back though. That diesel Suburban was rated for 190hp/390ft-lbs tq when new with a tow rating of 6,500lbs max.
The new truck is rated at 397/765ft-lbs with 13,000lbs conventional towing. Just about double.
Almost double the price too. That Suburban was $33,000 brand new on the sticker, and that was a lot back then for a truck. The new truck, just under $65,000 sticker.

The fords are actually the same size still from 99+, just styled to look bigger and sitting higher. All are parts are pretty interchangeable body wise with slight modification. But the 6.7's are pretty silly power and price wise, my 00 lariat was like 35k new a new one is in the 60-70 range list.

Was looking under the hood of the new truck tonight to see where they hid the plug for the block heater. After finding that (it was up by the firewall, had re-route it down to the grill), I checked the oil and then wanted to drain the fuel separator a little. You know, some basic maintenance for a diesel.
Well, the LML Duramax has been out for what, 4 years now or so? Wouldn't you think they would design the new 2015's to make maintenance easier?
Nope. You still have to take the fender liner out to access the fuel filter. Would it really have been that hard to put a little flap in there or something?
Out of the three newer diesels, I give Ford the win here. Look under the truck by the fuel tank for a little yellow knob, loosen it to get some fuel, tighten it back up. Done.

I got the coils spacers in on the weekend and the grill painted the way I wanted finally. Once these tires are whooped, I'm going to go 35x12.5 I think.

Re-dyno'd the truck this past Saturday... thing that sucks is I didn't get my Redline back in after it had gotten stolen. So I borrowed a buddy's Smarty. Still made decent numbers. Should with the right programmer, be in the 650 range.

Looking at getting into a diesel truck. This will be my first diesel truck , I'm fairly green to it.
Preferably I'd like a 06-07 2500 duramax from what I've read. Seems To be one or the more desirable ones.
I'd be pulling a fifth wheel frequently with it
In the summer. It's only about 6000lbs but id like to get into a bigger one eventually.
Most of them around my area seem to be around the 100k miles range for around $23,000.
Should I avoid something with 100k plus miles?
Besides transmission lines and trying to find one that is still relatively stock and unbeaten, what else is there to look out for ??
Thanks

In general, when it comes to diesels, 100k is just barely getting broke in. They aren't like gasser motors where the 100k mark you have to start wondering when it's going to let go. I'd say when it comes to a Cummins(my type of diesel) or the Duramax, don't be afraid of a 200k plus vehicle. At least not because of the engine. The rest of the respective truck is more then likely to fall apart around the engine. Not the other way around.

Well, stock crank for now. Then Carrillo rods if i can afford them... but most likely shot peened and polished 12V rods, with monotherm pistons with swaintech coating. The fueling will either be a Monster VP44 or what I'm trying to work a deal on is a 12mm p-pump. Obviously ditching the 366 for a 467.6. Should net the hp I'm aiming for.

I bought my duramax 04.5 lly with 201k on it. just shy of 220k running like a champ, only getting due for a water pump and possibly an fpr. My fathers 24v Common rail HO cummins has just over 165k, he did a water pump at like 120k. Things been solid as hell otherwise, still on the oem batteries that are 11 years old lol. My younger brothers 1st gen is at like 197k, thats kinda a cluster. Its literately the most cobbled together truck ive ever seen, cant believe my brother/dad bought it. But they are both pretty solid. Higher mileage wouldnt bother me, just be prepared to do some replacing.
On a side note to everyone, my younger brothers 1st gen 12v has a non wastegated hx40 on it. From what he told me its got an upgraded fuel pin and thats it. Its only spooling to about 20 psi, which seems pretty darn low. It does seem to lag pretty hard aswell, not hitting that 20 psi until about 2200 then falls off as you reach 2800. Too my understand thing is because the stock governor spring cuts off fueling before it reaches the redline right? What would he have to do to fix the issue with not boosting enough? Or is it a case of too large of a turbo?
