GI Sportz dissolved Canadian KEE and closing warehouse

So Jay Devost and others from KEE got laid off, Empire equipment and paint orders were cancelled and now I hear that Badlands is the main paint distributor and paint prices are going up by 25%. Valken prices stay the same.

GI Sports is doing exactly what everyone said they would. So now expect to pay out the arse for paint and markers. Thanks a lot Gardner-Italia Sports for making it even harder for us to play.

EDIT: Since many think I am full of ****, call KEE numbers and ask. Many field owners know Jay and other KEE employees. Instead of whining why don't you make a few calls and verify this for yourself. I found out today from field owners they have been canned.

Clarification

Jay, Dwayne and I believe anyone else that worked there were let go. Many of you know Jay as one of the Empire service people who was often teching or working the truck. And some of you might know Dwayne from his days of playing competitively or from his field. He still owns Flagswipe Paintball in London.

Implying the Gardners have anything to do with GI is simply incorrect. They were supposed to be involved in GI Milsim, but that never really happened and have never been part of GI Sportz.

Smdh.

Why is it so hard for people to not be greedy. As if the recession in '06 didnt hurt this sport enough, the business itself will ruin it for us rec ballers.

When thew Gardiners we're in bed with Richmond, it was GI Milsim, another entity within GI Sportz, they are no longer partners. When you can provide us with some actual proof/source, then I will apologize, until then **** off and quit trolling. Put up or shut up.

They are partnered with Valken now is what I've heard, so they can have paint for their sponsored teams....

Jay is one of a handful of people in the industry I have dealt with that puts his heart and soul into making the customer happy. I hope that he can get hired back in to keep makin' folks smile.

Plus I was told he cooks in his underwear.

John confirmed it above me. I know KEE.

It's done and down goes another company. I've got no crystal ball, but this doesn't look good in my opinion.

Get ready for your GI Axe and Vanquish.

Sorry. I'm not usually the gossipy type but this touched me.

EDIT: 10 year annual supporting member badge, John? Are you cheating me or has it really been this long? =P

Well Wartex, if John confirmed it, I now have to eat crow. I apologize, we we're told nothing would change until next year and given the "Look at Tippmann" example. I know and have partied with Jay in Va and in Fl, really going to miss his humor and awesome attitude.

Its unfortunate that people have been laid off and warehouses have closed, but these things are to be expected when a company is bought out. I think everyone had suspicions this would eventually happen, however it is surprising it happened this quickly. The question now is what will happen w the warranty side of things for Kee markers and sponsorships. I have not heard GI say anything as of yet on these two issues. IMO those two issues can effect more players than anything that has happened so far.

I love Mergers & Acquisitions and the business side and the back side of our crazy sport. I'm not a fan of the deal at all, but I'll be patient and see what happens. However, from Harvard Business Review:

"study after study puts the failure rate of mergers and acquisitions somewhere between 70% and 90%. A lot of researchers have tried to explain those abysmal statistics, usually by analyzing the attributes of deals that worked and those that didn’t. What’s lacking, we believe, is a robust theory that identifies the causes of those successes and failures.

Here we propose such a theory. In a nutshell, it is this: So many acquisitions fall short of expectations because executives incorrectly match candidates to the strategic purpose of the deal, failing to distinguish between deals that might improve current operations and those that could dramatically transform the company’s growth prospects. As a result, companies too often pay the wrong price and integrate the acquisition in the wrong way."

We need to ask the right questions - what is the strategic purpose of the buyout? To have a onetime huge growth in sales? To eliminate the direct competition that was impacting their profit margins? Meaning the cost of our beloved paintballs will necessarily increase?
