STAYING HYDRATED during Games

During summer games... it gets hot sometimes.... VERY HOT. Take NJ Nam 07 for example. It became so hot outside several people got heat exhaustion and some had to be taken by ambulance.

As a fellow paintball player I want to lookout for everyone else. We may be playing on different teams sometimes and I may want to Destroy you... but you're still another baller and I still care about the safety of everybody.

Staying Hydrated is very important!

Everything below is what I learned about hydration during my time at Air Force Basic Military Training.

Here's a quick Reference, take a look at ur urine and see what color it is:

If you're hydrated.... keep drinking about 1-2 quarts per hour to maintain your hydration. If you are dehydrated (center column) then you need to drink some water immediately... about 2 quarts... dont drink it fast... take your time.

If you are severely dehydrated (right column) Stop playing the game and seek professional medical attention.

You should start hydrating yourself 1 week before the game. Drinking a glass of water or 1 quart per hour while you're awake will do you wonders. By game day... your target hydration level should be the left column of colors (clear).

Hope this helps!

Bump

don't be a tool, I don't wanna have to carry you off the field. And especially don't get so bad you have to get in an ambulance. That means paperwork. And I HATE paperwork. Drink water.

I threw up at a field once because of dehydration. Not very yummy. I've pretty much stayed hydrated since then.

But China.........
Didn't you know???!!!
Its the game promoter's responsibility to shut down the game if not enough people are hydrating themselves.......So your post is silly!
So its ok if you don't drink and hydrate yourself because, well, you are the lowest common denominator........
And guillie suits are OK to wear 4 hours before game start in 95 degree weather.......

(Note: The above post is pure sarcasm in order to point out the hypocrisy of some of the people who will invaribly post to this thread and show how definitively stupid they can be, and is in no way directed at the mod known in some circles as China because, after all, he makes sure to hydrate )

LMAO, you go!
AND to make the situation even more intense, stay up all night the night before the game DRINKING Alcohol so that you can fall from dehydration even faster!
We all love paying large amounts of money to have the game halted for you guys that collapse of dehydration/or reason of the mind!

PLEASE, not be a AN A$$ for us all to have to deal with!

there are hydration devices at sporting goods stores, well worth the money. drink water before you play and while you play.

Yeah people. Ive seen people do really bad on the field because they were too lazy to go drink some water. If you're hydrated enough you wont even feel the heat that bad

China keep up the great work. At deadwood we have to start China and Me thread to post our pics with you lol maybe not.

In school i learned that for under 1 hour of excersie drink water. For more than an hour drink gatoraide or powerade to replensish salts and electrolytes.

For scenarios you should really stock on both. Its great to keep yourself hydrated but also thru in the electrolytes too. Most gas stations usually have Gatorade 32oz 2/3.00 same with powerade. I can get powerade buy 1 get 1 at 32oz. For nam it was buy 1 get 2 free we went thru a ton of the stuff and non of my guys dropped from heat related illness.

This also leads to another issue. I have not seen many designated Medic or Nurse areas at field. I know at deadwood we have some EMTs coming in for the event. But for games like Nam and ION (i did see some stuff but didnt know where it was). I think game producers/fields should announce who/where to go in case of an emergency. I know they say contact the ref but might not be a ref around. Just my 2 cents.

China keep up the good work.

China, Great foresight posting this thread before ION.

It is every players personal responsibilty to look after him/herself as well as teammates and other players when it comes to hydration. I bought 4 gallons of gatorade for the team for NJNAM and consumed close to 2 gallons of it myself. with that and water I was still feeling the effects of the heat and humidity.

I recommend the use of camelbacks if you have them. I think you can get a cheap one at target for about $10-20. worth every penny.

I thinking of making everyone on my squad sign a waiver so i can start an IV routed to a camelback.Nice and easy and no ENERGY wasted lifting a bottle or hose to your mouth. Open to the public for $20 a pop(pun intended) And bring your waivers.

Man, after reading this thread I went to the kitchen and got a drink...

Last event I went to I only had a coke and a bottle of water for 6 hrs and nothing happened, but I don't recommend it because my legs hurt during the last hour.

Great thread, hear is another bit of info about heat exhaustion.
Once you get heat stroke it comes on faster the second time and faster still the third time and so on and so on.
So the trick is not to get it the first time.

I used to do hazerdous chemical clean up. I was the one in the funny moon suit that you see on TV and let me tell you I have seen guys pour half a glass of sweat from there boots after an hour of working in 95 degree heat. So drink, drink, drink lots of water and play safe.

liek china mentioned pasta and carbs the night before is also a great idea. This should be basic knowledge to most people. Banannas i have heard before but never tried (will try at deadwood). Also Oranges for the Vitamin C (halftime was the only reason fat kids played soccer), as well as other fruits and veggies. Over all a well balanced diet is the best trick.

Also dont skip lunch, not only does it support the field (if you purchase) but also restocks your energy supply.
