That and the utility of it. I've still got my S1000R and I won't get rid of it. Hell, I'll probably update when they facelift to LED's, but it's nice to have luggage to toss my work stuff in. Most of the time a backpack will suffice, but I lose the ability to grab things on the way home and sweat a ton in the heat.

That said, I'll likely also finally make my CF backpack frame for the S1000R anyway, but the R1250GS is something the wife can ride on with me. Day trips and weekend trips is something we've been eyeing up for a while.

Ive got an old 600rr that i run out on to get a rush. As old as i am it get a little uncomfortable riding longer than an hr on top of a tank. Ive been eyeing the MT series from Yamaha for a longer ride.

The MT's are great bikes. If the MT10 existed when I got the S1000R I'd have probably got one.

I need to jump on an Iron Butt. Hoping to run from Pittsburgh to Chicago this spring and meet a friend for dinner. He's in Iowa, so we found routes that have us meet at ~502 miles each.

I ended up deleting my post because my work PC won't let me upload photos to hosting sites. But anyways, the Iron Butt rides are really fun. The hardest I've ever done is the BunBurner Gold. You have to ride 1500 miles within 24 hours. 1000 in 24 isn't terrible. You don't have to deprive yourself of sleep and you can do a little site seeing. When you tack on 500 miles, it changes everything. We ran in and out of gas stations and went 10+ over the speed limit on the interstate. It still took every bit of 21 or 22 hours to hit 1500 miles. Still waiting on my certification but my official time will be 1556 miles in 22.5 hours.

Some people are like....Why would you do that? It doesn't sound fun. I just get a sense of accomplishment out of it. It's not for everyone but it's for me

I figure I'll hit the 1500 as well, why not? I get that folks don't wanna do it, but I'd love to say I did.

My advice would be to get yourself in position to leave as soon as you can after waking up (pack everything the night before, take a shower the night before, etc.). After waking up, I was pulling out of my driveway within 20 minutes.

Also plan to be up for 24 hours. I've heard countless people say "Oh I've ridden 800-1000 miles days and felt fine, 1500 should be a piece of cake" and they end up not preparing and tapping out before the ride is over. To put it in perspective, 63 MPH for 24 hours straight....no stops...would be 1500 miles. So when you add in gas stops and food, you obviously need to average a much quicker speed than that.

In general, anyone can stay up for 24 hours if the really want. But when it's constant interstate riding on a motorcycle, it wears on ya quick. Many have done it and I'm not making myself out to be a motorcycle god. This is just the most difficult and underestimated challenge of the Iron Butt Association.

Ok I'm done rambling. I haven't posted since 2015 so have some lost time to make up for

Good luck and be safe!
