Street paintball shootings becoming a fad...

Lately, in the Los Angeles area we've had a few incidents in which young people in cars armed with paintball guns are shooting at people and property. In a very recent incident, a 9 year old boy was shot just above the eye and required 9 stitches.

Heres the article about it: http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/l...818-story.html

Apparently it was found that a group has created a game out of it, awarding points for hitting certain objects such as a street lamp or stop sign. A rule is that you must record the hits. Has anyone else heard of anything like this in your neighborhood?

haven't heard of this, however i'm glad they have to record it. The millenial generation is doing a fantastic job overall of busting themselves with video. so like all other things, these idiots will most likley put themselves in jail. so overall things should work out just fine and this will pass.

Oh hell no. I live in Los Angeles and never heard of an incident before. I'll chase those punks down and turn them in if I see them doing that in my part of the neighborhood.

Lots of idiots in LA. I remember on Instagram I saw some dude going on his balcony and shooting his buddy at the bus stop with an LV1. I was shocked that with all those people on the street the guy had the bright idea to try to hit his buddy. I wish i saved or screen shotted it.

Either way I wish there was less idiots out there but nothing we can really do about it.

Im a bit surprised thats happening in Chicago, what part of the city?

I remember when super soakers first came out and clowns were filling them w gasoline.
If someone wants to create chaos they will find a way, unfortunately paintball as a whole will get a bad rep when these incidents occur.

I hope people report these acts when they see it.
Very easy for locations to justify not allowing a shop or field to be built when these incidents happen.

I haven't been looking as much recently, but 8-10 years ago before I knew where to look for paintball news, I would just put "paintball" into Google and check the news section. Every few days it was like clockwork: 1 person age 18-19 would buy Brass Eagles from Walmart and drive for 2 or 3 of his teenage friends to do basically the same thing. I don't know if it had gone down in frequency, but what happened back then seems pretty close to what you're describing.

I've seen a video of that. Honestly it looks fun but the fact that these guys don't wear protection and also potentially put neighbors in danger makes it downright stupid.

Were paintball markers already considered a "deadly weapon" before?

I saw people doing it with tippmanns and such. I tried to sell them my CS1.5 because it would get the job done a lot better. Of course those cheap bastards scoffed at the price

EXACTLY. These guys will all end up losing their gear, getting criminal charges of vandalism, assault, criminal mischief, etc, and will likely serve jail time if they keep it up. Not to mention, cops could easily shoot them in response, and they're adding to getting paintball banned/regulated by law.

TRUST ME. I KNOW ALL THIS FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE.

It's such a shame that many non-players are introduced to the game of paintball like this. I love the spirit behind some of these neighborhood paintball videos, paintball is for everyone! But unfortunately clowns who don't use proper protection and exercise common sense end up endangering everybody around them and give our sport a bad wrap.
