New DM3 Owner

Hi all,

I just bought a beautiful Toxic Matrix. I'm wondering if there is a diagram showing the size of each oring on the bolt kit. I aired it up and I'm only hearing a slight leak from the bolt kit, but it cycles just fine. I'm assuming that a fresh coat of lube will seal it right up. Also, what lube is everyone using?

Thanks in advance!

The most common orings to fail are the bolt sail (015) and inner tophat (013); personally I run quad/x-rings in those spots for that reason

As for lube, I use what's on hand which normally is slick honey or full synthetic motor oil

welcome manfred to ownership to some fantastic markers. its getting harder to find info on these that once was readily available. just snag a rebuild oring kit and you can easily figure out the sizes as you go. just take a picture of the engine assembly as you tear it apart so you can assemble it back together correctly

There are Manuals and pictures all over the internet including here.

It helps to know what Bolt System is in it though?

There are a lot of different Bolts for the OG Matrices. The stock Bolt for the Toxic should be the Gen E Image.

ORING SIZES FOR OG MATRICES

STANDARD BOLT

Part--------------------------Oring size
Front wall (Outside)---------------#23
Front wall (inside)-----------------#17
Bolt nose (front)------------------#14
Bolt sail (middle)------------------#15
Bolt stem back--------------------#9
Bolt stem inside-------------------#10
Top hat (outside)-----------------#23
Top hat (large inside)-------------#17
Top hat (small inside)-------------#12
Rear wall-------------------------#23
Rear cap (outside)----------------#23
Manifold--------------------------#3

GEN-E BOLT

Part--------------------------Oring size
Front wall (Outside)---------------#23
Front wall (inside)-----------------#17 quad
Bolt nose (front)------------------#14 or 13
Bolt sail (middle)------------------#15
Bolt stem back--------------------#9
Bolt stem inside-------------------#9
Top hat (outside)-----------------#23
Top hat (large inside)-------------#17 quad
Top hat (small inside)-------------#13
Rear wall-------------------------#23
Rear cap (outside)----------------#23
Manifold--------------------------#3

Note: this is taken from the Matrix Manual, Quad = Xring

Buna durometer 70 is the stock material for most places. I’d personally recommend Viton durometer 75 for the Xrings.

This is very helpful. I just finished a full rebuild, and the marker didn't leak! I'm curious on one of the orings that was inside the Tophat (I believe). It looked more like a car belt rather than an oring if that makes sense. I'm wondering if I replaced the (quad) orings with normal orings. I might have. Will the marker still function?

Yes the marker will function fine without the quad orings, I personally stopped using them over a decade ago.

Yes your marker won't leak because of the lack of quads; the only reason they are called for is redundancy of sealing surfaces as the x-shape creates dual seals with slightly lower resistance to movement and hold grease a bit better as it gets caught between the seals.

Last I heard bones talked to Carter about hosting his history thesis on the mcb server, though I never found it there...I can't remember what settings he figured out for the slam bolts I just remember it wasn't normal
