If you really, really like to shoot, defending is a dream. You are pretty much shooting constant for the entire game. Recycles are shorter, and you are allowed to store your gear at the castle, so you pretty much never stop for 4 hours straight.
And you will shoot LOTS AND LOTS of attackers. For those with egos that need boosting, its pretty amazing. You might shoot hundreds of players. Especially near the middle of the game while you repell hopeless wave after wave.
But there is little freedom of movement. And if you are not using a "high end gun", some defenders will scoff at you. They do not even offer co2 fills for defenders. Near the end, if you loose a wall, it tends to become unpleasant after that with lots of close-quarter shots, and pissed of players.
Attacking is, obviously, all opposite. You have a pretty amazing range of play. Up the hill to snipe, through the town, or around back. Follow the organized teams (ie Delta), or just wonder up the road by yourself. (you will often be ignored). Use any equipment you want, nobody will care.
Lots more freedom, and less serious. But less play as well. The recycle area is much further away, and the walk up and down can really wipe you out. Last year, I never even bother going up the "upper" hill to conserve energy.
NOTE: I've been told all defender spots are gone, so it might be a moot point anyway. Regardless, its a blast either way. Unlike most traditional scenerio games, you KNOW where the "enemy" is, so the action is constant from start to finish.

Nice description of both attacking and defending.
So far, I have only attacked, and that is because most of my team is in sixth grade and too young to defend.
As for getting wiped out walking up the hill, do what I do. Start working out! Find the tallest building that you can, start at the bottom and walk up the stairs to the top! I walk to the top of a 53 story building everyday. I should be in great shape for Castle, which is in 62 days

I've been working out.
Today I started my second batch of EMR homebrew. A heavy Belgian Dubbel.
hmmm... I think we have different ideas about what "Working out" means...
Though that probobly explains why I'm not running up the hill..

You air up your marker, strap on the mask, and walk onto the field.. it doesn't matter that you failed that test, that your girlfriend broke up with you, or that you got a ticket on the way there... your world is right for the next couple hours,... this is your heaven on earth.. live it.. love it.. play it.. Paintball.
98% percent of ballers wipe, if your part of the 2% that has some sense of honor add this to your sig

Attacking. There are 4 of us coming down from Canada, team name "Gorr's Grunts".
After checking out some vids on Youtube I am exited. Not exited enough to be in the first wave and get completely lit up but exited. Thinkin' about pumping it instead of going electro.
