just got a phantom, and have a few question.......
like duh........

best co2 cartridge or are they all the same?
have the screw back cartridge holder, can that be swapped out for a back bottle or quick change holder?
what in the sam hill are the color coded breach rings for?
cant seem to find anything about the damn things in the manual

I always used Lelands 12g on my phantoms or stock class markers. I found it to be the most consistent.

You can pretty much do whatever you want with a phantom either back bottle or quick changer.

Color coded oring is the detent.

another stupid question thats been eating at me
I thought I saw a thread bout a guys who is 3D printing detent rings and selling them, the difference was, his rings had slight "nubs" protruding around the inside edge...............................AND now I cant locate the thread, to have his username so I can message him and place an order

Detent rings are just to prevent double feeding.

From my experience, they are all pretty much the same. They are all filled with an equal volume of the same gas. I use Crossman because they are made in the USA and they are sold at department stores.(shipping gets pretty expensive when you buy them online, so best to get them local)

Are you talking about something that screws onto the very back of the gun?

Yes, you can remove it you'll see once you get the gun in your hand, there is a top piece on the 12g changer that unscrews and has the same threading as a tank or regulator. That being said, be wary of the weight, it isn't really designed to support a 68/45. Though they do sell 3.5oz CO2 and 13/3k HPA tanks which is a safer option. Some people buy a 13/3k and screw the tank into the back to use as a stock.

They are your detents, when the gun is cocked and ready to fire it prevents the ball from rolling down the barrel. They also sell freak bored barrels that are able to accept freak inserts which work a bit better. Sometimes a paintball will work it's way past the ring and roll right out. Won't happen with a freak, however you take a shot to efficiency, and have to swap out 12g more often. But if getting an extra 3-4 shots from a 12g will determine whether you can pay rent this month, it's probably time to stop playing paintball.

No, it will still double feed with the detent rings, the detent ring is to prevent the ball from rolling down the barrel. Preventing double feeds is all about timing, you have to give it enough time for the first ball to seat but be fast enough to prevent a second ball from going in. You get better at both timing it and how much you have to angle the gun down to feed quickly as you use it, but at first I had to look at what I was doing to prevent double feeding or chopping.

Here's some places to look for parts and accessories. You will find the Phantom is the swiss army knife of pumps. You can make it work however you like. If you are like me you will end up with enough ways to configure it that you almost build another entire gun. They are fun and I love how you can make them your own.

As far as detents go, I bought the ASP modded body with detents and it worked great (but it costs $75). I also bought the o-ring detents for the camo phantom and they worked well. The only issue I had was forgetting about them when I removed the barrel. They just sit there in the gun between the breach and barrel. They are a cheaper solution and worked fine.

General parts

3D printed pump handles and they also sell small hoppers

A good source for parts. They also sell the modded detent bodies. I had one to get the Autococker threaded body.

This is how I configured mine. I liked the bottle on the back and the under barrel cocking kit. I had so many parts I upgraded on the original gun I bought internals and had this as a second gun!


Here's the original one I bought. I had the 12 round tune that would fit in the feedneck too.

Clear parts are hard to find. Most are black (pump handle and stock class feed tube).

I prefer to run a small hopper with 50 rounds or less and a 13 CI tank.

Check on M Carter brown as there is a custom made pump handle available for $130 that can be tactical with a rail or smooth both with a triangle grip.
