NCPA cancels rest of 2019-2020 College Paintball season due to Coronavirus

Seniors will get another year of eligibility, but the rest of the events for the rest of the season are officially canceled.

What does this mean for the rest of the NXL events this year? Hopefully answers will come soon.

Various restrictions related to reducing the transmission of the novel coronavirus have recently been enacted by most colleges and universities across the country. Given these restrictions, the NCPA does not believe there is any responsible way to conduct further college paintball tournaments this season. We are therefore cancelling the remaining 2019-2020 events, unfortunately including the 2020 NCPA College Paintball National Championships.

We understand that college paintball tournaments, and the National Championships especially, are a core component of the lives of our players, and this cancellation will be extremely disappointing, especially for our graduating seniors. As such, we will be extending the eligibility of all college players for one additional year. If you would have been eligible to compete at the 2020 Championships, you will be eligible to compete through the end of the 2020-2021 season.

If you have any questions please feel free to reach out and ask, through our Facebook page at facebook.com/ncpapaintball, or by email at [email protected]. We look forward to seeing you in Fall 2020!

this cancellation only includes regional events this season (ending this semester) and Nationals in April. The current events happening around the globe caused a lot of stress, difficulties, and the obvious health hazards for many people. It was becoming increasing difficult if not impossible for a lot of college clubs to even consider attending because of restrictions imposed for campuses (classes going virtual) and clubs being restricted from traveling. The NCPA took it very seriously when considering all options but this was ultimately the best solution.

Makes sense to me. Their season will be over by the time some of those schools get back on site anyway. At least you know early.

A damn shame, but necessary in light of the situation.

We tried to do that when I was playing in the NCPA but itís just too damn expensive to play more than a couple events. There was a college division at World Cup in 2003 and 2004 for sure it might have gone on after I graduated. We also played PSP Chicago a couple times in D3 but just couldnít afford to play more than that.

We tried a few times to have a college level at NXL cup recently. it is extremely expensive for teams to go so we only got some Florida and close by teams. I think a total of 3? and if players are going to Cup they're going to prioritize their respective teams. I have tossed around the idea of piggy backing off the NXL locations and events but it just is not feasible along with just finding field time for another division the cost for teams was very high, schools don't give a lot of funding, school clubs may be restricted on travel distance if its not for a national championship, students would need to take extended time off of classes for an event that long and to do it multiple times a season just adds to the difficulty.

I played the college bracket at world cup in 08 and 09. There were only 4 teams each time, but it was a lot of fun. The timing of world cup syncs up well with the Fall semester. At the time, the Florida schools only played Cup and Nationals, because the NCPA xball events were inconvenient. I doubt any school would play a full NXL schedule, but using NXL locations to supplement regional NCPAs would probably work, particularly in places that have an NXL every year (Texas, Florida, Chicago).
