How to use a DM9-11 soft tip bolt with a PM5-7

Why? because it's fun to mod things.

Pros:
  • Better Consistency
  • Softer on paint
  • Can use (anodized) billy wing bolt

Cons:
  • You have to buy an extra bolt

Materials needed:
  • PM5-7 Front cylinder
  • DM9-11 Tophat
  • DM9-11 Backcap
  • DM9-11 Bolt
  • Pick to remove orings (optional)

Method:
  1. Remove PM5-7 Bolt kit from marker
  2. Remove front 014 oring from both DM and PM bolts
  3. Unscrew front cylinder from PM5-7
  4. Screw PM5-7 Front Cylider to DM9-11 Bolt + Tophat + backcap
  5. Install front 014 oring
  6. Screw bolt kit into marker
  7. Lower Markers Dwell to 14ms - Alternatively you can set dwell to stock or higher and lower LPR.
  8. Set LPR to 65psi (if you have pressure tester) if not then go low and increase until your shot flattens.

Extras:
DM10 back cap does stick out a little on the PM5 & 7 not on the pm6 though it looks great.
You can fine tune your shot to your personal preference by modifying your LPR and dwell. I find the range to be about:
Dwell as low as 10ms with a high LPR pressure
Dwell high as 21ms with a low LPR pressure

Your LPR pressure might be different than mine, oring material, age, and lubrication will affect this number.

Inconsistency:
  • Replace 006 PU D90 oring in LPR, located in the center of the LPR
  • Replace 007 PU D90 oring in hyper 2 regulator located in center of HPR
  • Change/check inside front cylinder and tophat 017 orings + 014 tophat oring + 015 bolt sail oring.
  • Check your tank regulator is clean. (advanced - be careful)
  • check solenoid manifold for lubrications build up
  • Check for clogged airway in body. (advanced - be careful)

rough testing

Test Marker:
PM5 with AKA LPR & CP Reg - both new orings and PE Grease

Parameters:
14ms dwell
61psi LPR
190psi HPR

All Bolts have planet eclipse grease
All same oring batch and manufacture - except for bwing first test
weather and humidity were consistent
Shot reballs which all weighed 2.5g -(paint is about 3.2g)

Results in FPS (averaged):
DM10 bwing- 302
DM10 bwing w/stock tophat* - 307
DM10 bwing new orings** -325
Hybrid back cap stock - 260
Orange bolt - w/stock can, hat, cap - w/spacers - 253
Hybrid back cap with orange bolt - 299
Stock DM10 - 318
Stock DM10 w/spacers** - 213
All Stock - 216
Stock with spacers - 193

*bolt was stock from the box - I wiped the old grease and added new grease.
**replaced all the oring with mine and PE grease - BW hat and bolt w/stock can and cap
***Spacers don't give an accurate test for efficincy without raising the HPR.

Conclusion:
DM10 seems to allow lower HPR, LPR, and dwell settings vs stock bolt for improved efficiency. I was surprised by the hybrid back cap with orange bolt, that was a nice find. I have had some issues in the past with the orange bolt sticking on warm days, so with the numbers so close I'd still choose the DM10 bolt.

Awesome we got a guide now too. You the man latches. I'll post the Billy winged pm6 once the bolt comes. (It was only $35 thru Walmart lmao, they're $40 on ebay. Can get a pm8 back cap from a PM8 colored parts kit. I found a silver pm8 colored parts kit for $10 off Facebook bst and I think Ebay has orange, purple, and teal pm8 colored parts kits for $25) . Also how do you use dm9-11 wired eyes, dont you need lucky board or something. I have some dm8 laser eyes

UL frame with aftermarket or later revision oem board which has the two prong eye jumper. Easy to spot when buying the parts/marker or checking your equipment.

The Billy wing bolt should be here by Saturday. What dwell do you reccomend, 14?

14ms @ ~60LPR pressure - it will shoot here.

if you keep 18ms (default) then your LPR pressure can be lower ~45-50PSI

you could run an incremental test. Set a dwell then run through the LPR pressure range noting how it shoots.

the solenoid is rated from 29PSI to 101PSI so these are you hard limits.

ive never seen how a BW bolt has made these guns more efficient.
lowers lpr.. yes..
unfortunately, never saw great benefits of lowering the dwell to the point of better efficiency. its going to empy the air in the dump chamber completely each shot i thought.

edit: and didnt the hybrid back cap come with the tophat mod already built in?

Yeah I’d keep Dwell at 18 or even raise it a little.

The Hybrid Bolt Guides do have the Top Hat mod and 530 mod built in...

I think that’s a different part than the Backcap

Stock DM10 bolt vs bwing DM10 bolt does not make much a difference. Anodizing has less of an effect than the lubrication and oring selection.

Hybrid back cap comes with an aluminum tophat sleeve. the back cap is slightly larger to help keep the sleeve in place.

Edit: I think some air is left behind in the firing chamber, it's not dumping everything then we would have a vacuum, how much I am not sure. Try this mod out, let me know if you have the same results.

Had leak right out of box, after changing all orings on the Billy wing and pm8 back cap, still had a leak but it was much less noticeable. Also did the oring on the lpr retainer seat. Then after replacing the orings on the pm6 beer can the leak stopped even though those orings had just worked fine on the stock bolt lol. Either going to play tomorrow or if its gunna rain going to tune the pm6 Billy wing hippy killer edition. Will post results

This is a great writeup.

Shame the Dye bolts (specifically the back caps) are so hard to come by, I'd give it a go for sure.

Just installed the BW bolt on my pm5 and the bolt sail o-ring seems to have excessive friction in the pm5 can. Are you guys using the 015 o-ring, or are you replacing it with a 014?

measured a few with calipers, they are the same inner diameter. Try a different 015 D70 oring. You should be able to flick the bolt out to check the friction. Use some dow 33 type lube.

Tried a couple different 15s, even looked at them to see if I could find one that looked a little smaller than the others, and use dow 33. I will test with air as soon as I can get some. Thanks for the reply.
