Thumbs up My review of the Bob Long MVP

Alright, So about a month ago or so, I sold a gun that I made a big profit on and I decided that rather than saving the money, I'd blow it on an MVP. I had my local pro-shop order it for me, put my down payment on it, and waited..

It took about two weeks or so to arrive (Which Bob Long apparently kept them in the dark about; it literally just showed up in the mail)..

When I got there, it looked like this;

Upon picking up the gun and screwing the barrel in, the first thing I did was look down the gun and found my off hand looking for a fore grip. Seems to be everyone's number 1 gripe about this gun.

Other than that, the gun feels great. The pump stroke is nice and snappy, it fits in your hands well. The grip tape on the sides of the pump handle isn't exactly necessary, but it does help. It came with a .685 barrel, which I don't use (I prefer my CP kit)

My first day at the field with it:

I was super excited to get my first kill with this gun. Right now, in Arizona, the pump scene is kinda lacking, so I was playing rec-ball with my friends. (The true way to ENJOY the game). I got to the field, geared up, took my gun out to the chrono.. 275, 270, 278. Turned up the reg pressure, 297, 299, 298. I took the time and the rest of the paint in the hopper to show the gun off to some of the people who weren't sure if they'd like it and let them shoot it. They seemed to like it as well.

So I degassed it, went to the staging area and waited for my friends to finish chronoing their CCMs. By the time they were ready, I was walking onto the field, aired my gun up, and it started leaking from the cam-drive ASA.. I turned back around, pulled out my tools and began to work on it. We had to get inside of the ASA and change the larger o-ring, which was a pain to get back together considering we didn't have a pair of needle noses to get the pin back in it's spot. I ended up using an old piece of timmy hosing to get the piece in it's place and then re-assembled.

Once playing with it, it shot wonderfully. The sound signature of the gun is a little different than a cocker, which people tend to describe as "farty". I noticed that there were two different types of sounds that the gun shoots with. One is the typical "It sounds like a fart", when the other is a significantly quieter 'pop' sound. The paint flew where it was supposed to, got numerous kills with it.

Pro's:
It's comfortable
It's simple (No IVG, sweet spotting, yada yada)
Snappy pump stroke
Easy and quick to disassemble

Cons:
You can short-stroke the auto trigger (Shoot without feeding a ball)
Lack of foregrip (Which I didn't find myself missing much while playing)
.685 barrel, the anno wasn't even close to the same dust black

Overall: I'm satisfied with the gun. It looks a lot better in person than on the internet.

And for the record: This is what I'm used to playing with..

Does the gun feel solid or does it feel loose or cheap? Like if you shake it can you hear things move?

Very solid. You can't torque the handle in any direction and nothing moves when you shake it. They're well built guns

Mine went through the mud / water in TX and came out shooting just fine. I have noticed some wear on the inside of the pump arm but its always been a smooth stroke even after going through dirt/mud

one thing to watch for is the frame screws need to be tight or it wont shoot right. (mainly the front screw)

I estimate I've put 20 cases through mine so far

No dirt in the bearings, but there are so many of them, and they're all easily swapable if needed. Very solid gun. Nothing shakes.

I love bob long, and my skepticism about the lack of fore grip went away after I started playing pump with a reflex and never took my hands off the arm. I've been really curious about the Asa. I hate the cam drives, and I was curious if you can swap the ASA even though the reg is in the grip?

I'm sure their is a way to get any kind of asa on their that deals with the Air through the grip frame for example if you don't like the CAM drive you can probably use something that was on the pre 2012 g6rs

There is no way to change the asa's. The frame is the same as a 2011 g6r and requires a different frame to swap asa's.

I sold it, with the rest of my collection this was the first gun on the chopping block. I do miss it a little, yes, but I prefer my traditional cocker based pump over it. The pump stroke was insanely smooth with the ball bearings, but the sound signature, and with how tiring it is to always keep your hand on the pump handle during play, I had to choose my karni over it.

You said one of the cons was that the barrel wasn't close to the dust black body.....I'm pretty sure it's not suppose to be. Therefore, there goes one of the cons....the barrel was suppose to be gloss to match the Asa and engine
