I find the more the paint costs the smoother it goes down 🙂

- Safety is the number 1 priority for everyone. This is especially important when there are young players out there
- Money doesn't correlate to skill for the most part. I tell newbs that they can shoot people out just as well with their rental gun as I can with my Geo. The gun is just a tool to deliver paint to the opponent.
- Don't be scared to make big moves. Making big plays helped me learn what I can and can't get away with. Also putting yourself in tight situations forces you to think fast and make smart split time decisions
- Enjoy yourself. I tell a lot of the new guys that if we (the regulars) can play it and get better, than so can they. Paintball takes a little getting used to at first being that it's not similar to typical sports or everyday activities. This is what makes it fun!

Try to keep a cool head with all that action going on around you. Remember, SAFETY FIRST! Be mindful of your shots, who's/what's behind your target (in woodsball, there may not be any nets), is your target already out? Sometimes it's better not to shoot right away and to wait a little bit to see what the situation is.

Remember to look around and be aware of the big picture. Sometimes we all get tunnel vision or become locked in a duel trying to get a hit on one opponent, only to find that we are the only ones left on the field, or that the rest of our team had to move away from you.

Also, learn the physics of paintball. It helped me immensely to understand what I can and can't do with a marker and paint. Paintball will always have defined limits:
- You can only apply so much force to a paintball before it breaks.
- Paintballs (and this depends on type and quality) need to be traveling at a certain velocity before they can break, tourney level balls will break at lower velocity than woodsball or some field paints. This tells you how far you can shoot and still have your paint break on target.
- Paintballs will never be perfect because of the way they have to be manufactured, so if you're expecting a bullet-like trajectory, precision, and consistency, you'll be disappointed. But to me, that's what makes things interesting and fun. Hint: Old paint sucks more.
- Know how your marker works. Not just how to turn it off and on or engage/disengage the safety or pressurize/depressurize it. I'm talking about understanding how the air flows through the marker and how all the moving parts contribute to sending that orb of paint downrange. Helps when you have a problem on the field and knowing if you can fix it right then and there or if you have to take it back to your workbench.

It’s not about how many balls your bring out to the field. It’s about how big your balls ARE on the field. Go rush them. It’s only paintball lol

One thing I noticed in a scenario game at OSG was that two opposing forces would s-l-o-w-l-y work their way up to a structure in which they're to plant their flag. So I grabbed three other dudes and we sprinted up, planted our flag, setup a defense and held it while the rest of the force snuck their way up. Must've been 10 minutes before we saw anyone at all.

BLUF: Don't be afraid to sprint ahead - especially if you get regenerated/respawned during the game.

DO NOT RUSH GETTING INTO THE SPORT!!! Buy quality equipment even if it means you have to rent a little longer.

I agree... most fields have some kind of deal for passes or rentals combined with passes... a local field of mine it's only $79 for a year pass which includes field fee's, hpa, and rentals! This helps newbies get out a few times before they decide on making the investment in their own set up.

I always found one of the better tips to be sure you have a squeegee on the field at all times. Never know when you will need it.

Another thing I have found helpful is to know how to trouble shoot your marker.
To many times I have seen players guns malfunction on the field in the middle of a tournament and they get shot because they don't know how to trouble shoot a lot of simple gun malfunctions.

The first time you go play, eat a paintball. It will please the paintball gods and make you play better than everyone else.
