READ before posting.... Shocker FAQ .... READ!!!

Welcome to the Shocker subforum! We have only a few basic rules in addition to the Pbnation global FAQ.

Rule 1:
Please DO NOT post B/S/T threads, they will be deleted immediately without warning.
Explanation: There is a section called the "Buy/Sell/Trade" (or B/S/T for short). Located within the BST forum is a subforum specifically for "Electronic Markers". The Shocker subforum here is for informational and discussion purposes; any B/S/T posts made here will be closed. Please repost your B/S/T threads in the appropriate forum.

Rule 2:
Please DO NOT make any text posts in the picture thread; they will be deleted. Please take your discussions into another thread, or simply post a new thread about the picture if you want other people to chime in!

Rule 3:
Please use the search feature!! Often your question has already been discussed in the past. We've gathered up a lot of useful posts in the replies below ("ultimate sticky Shocker thread"). The moderators won't delete your post, but if they see you posting redundant threads too often you may get a warning. I understand sometimes the search feature doesn't come up with what we are looking, but please try to use it if possible.

Rule 4:
Please DO NOT flame another user for not using the search feature.
Explanation: I know this sounds contradictory to the previous rule, but bear with me. Sometimes the search function isn't working, or you can't search for the appropriate term (search terms must be 4 or more letters, etc), maybe you just couldn't search for the correct words. So please don't flame them, just help them. I have seen too many posts that I had to delete because someone flamed them for not using the search feature. Keep your cool guys! We're one big paintball family.

The remaining posts in this thread are for useful information regarding Shockers. If you find any posts you feel should be added to the list, please send a PM to our moderator Ydna and he will be happy to help!

General FAQ and information can always be found on zdspb.com. Check there for technical info and other information if you can't find it above. Listed here is an additional FAQ thread for the most very common questions on this forum (compiled by Bush'em, UnknownPsycho, Ydna, and others; edited by Ydna).

Shocker manual: http://www.smartparts.com/Manuals/Shocker.pdf Read; learn.

Shocker resources: http://www.zdspb.com/tech

Shocker SFT, Shocker NXT, Shocker 03, etc: To date, all Shockers produced after the Shocker Sport (brick Shocker, shoebox Shocker, etc) are Shocker SFT markers. In late 2006 SP redesigned and released the Shocker NXT, which functions the same with new support features.

What's the difference between 03, 04, 05, etc etc etc? In short, not much. Check this thread https://www.pbnation.com/showthread.php?t=1992705

Why not buy an Ion? Shockers are NOT just expensive Ions. If you have to ask which one to get, you're probably better off with the Ion. If you’re absolutely sure you’re ready to make the jump into the tournament scene, go ahead and save yourself some money in the long run and get the Shocker.

Which private label Shocker?!? Please feel free to form your own opinions. The differences between the different PL Shockers are apparent from the outside; internally they are typically the exact same gun. Looks are the main differences here, nothing more. Check ZDSPB.com for comparisons and such.

HPA tank...HP or LP output? The answer is either will work. LP tanks are popular but HP will also work just fine.

Electronics:

Vision system: All Shocker SFT markers are premilled for Vision eyes. Vision eyes weren't always standard parts, however in 2006 they were made standard and all Shockers bought new as of then has eyes equipped from the factory.
Shocker NXT uses reflective eyes which aren't compatible with the Shocker SFT markers. However, Shocker SFT reflective eyes are compatible with Shocker NXT bodies and boards.

Boards: All Shockers as of about mid-2004 come with the "Nerve" board, which is a stock board programmed with an expanded dwell setting, boot up in Vision mode, and includes four rebound ramping modes in addition to semiauto. Shocker NXT boards are also programmed with different eye modes corresponding to the eyes used in the gun.

If you're looking at picking up an aftermarket board, generally one is just as good [and fast] as any other. Just look at the different firing modes and general features for each board and pick the one you like best. ZDSPB.com has a comparison feature for all the boards available.

Settings:
First, set your dwell. On the stock bolt kit with the Parker solenoid it should be 25-30 chirps or possibly more, if you have the Humphrey solenoid in the 40’s to 50's. Don’t know which one you have? Click [urll=http://www.zdspb.com/media/skr03/solenoid_solenoidmodels.jpg]here.
Refer to the manual on how to adjust the dwell. If you have a gauge set your pressure on your regulator to ~190 psi. If you don’t, after setting your dwell set your reg to 0 and slowly bring it up until you’re at the velocity you want. This should put you around the right pressure. During this process make adjustments with the dwell, not your regulator. Your reg input pressure should never exceed 200 psi. After dwell is set, use the input pressure to control your velocity, do not use dwell to control velocity.

The stock board's recharge setting should always be set to the bottom (0) unless you purposefully wish to cap your gun’s rate of fire.

Shootdown / FSDO: The most common cure for shootdown is to raise your dwell (and in turn lower your pressure). FSDO can be cause by a few different things. The bolt kit needs just a light layer of lube to function properly. Too much or too little can cause FSDO, bolt stick, and shootdown. Also make sure your battery is good.

Internals; Pneumatics:

My Shocker sucks! / Why is it leaking? If it's broken or leaking, it's likely you damaged something during reassembly, or otherwise error. When posting, tell us exactly what you did (no matter how stupid it makes you look) so that we can actually find a solution to your problem. If it's basic maintenance then look in your manual or in this sticky thread here for help. Believe me- it's already been covered!

Bolts: Shocker NXT markers come stock with the HE bolt from Smart Parts. Aftermarket things are available however the performance difference/addition is slim on most of them.
Shocker SFT markers came with the old "stock" bolt which was not high efficiency. For these bolts, upgrading is suggested for better efficiency. There are/were many aftermarket parts available which will all perform virtually the same. In terms of the raw performance, nothing is ever guaranteed when it comes to a paintball marker, just because somebody says they get a million shots per tank doesn't mean the bolt is golden and will work the same for you.

Upgrades:Good upgrades to start with would be a HE bolt kit, new trigger, NDZ detents, and a clamping feedneck. If you feel the need, you can upgrade your board.

Unless you’re having problems with the stock regs you really don’t need to upgrade it. If you insist then some good alternatives would be an Evolve Pi, AKALMP 2 Liter or Sidewinder, Macdev Gladiator, CP reg, Palmer Stab, CP reg, etc. Shocker NXTs come with an upgraded regulator which is faster than all those regulators listed except for the AKA and Evolve ones.

For many the stock All American barrel shoots fine. Some barrel options include the SP Freak kit, Stiffi, Redz Pepper Stick, Dye Ultralight, and CP barrels.

When you have a problem, be sure you can fully describe it, and don't forget to list your setup and settings. Remember to read through the Ultimate Sticky and run a search before you start a new thread. If you need immediate help, mention that in your thread title and wait patiently. We don’t live online, so give your thread a few hours AT A MINIMUM before you bump it. If you can’t wait, make sure you can describe exactly what your gun is doing and call Smart Parts Technical Support- 1.800.992.2147, Mon-Fri 10am-6pm.
