I think the revenues from the updates compel them to keep everything current. I'm curious if the updates are an entirely new book, or if they just send you the updated section. If they send out a new book, I could see the $20 charge and would be willing purchase the updated version once a year for $20. Most of the $20 would be going toward printing costs and shipping.

I bought the book, I got $200 value from it. I agree with NWPaintball. My book was the newest version in May of 2005. Nearly every statement that starts with "as of" has 2002 behind it. That is 3 years old. And there are a lot of them. A lot of the contact information was no longer valid. Most business had been out of business for several years. So yes I agree it is date specific. If it is updated 40 times a year I would not expect to see so many "as of 2002" statements.
The overall content of the guide is good but you have to sort out what would work for you in your area and your situation.

Ok,
Let me clear a few things up here on the Paintball Field Operators Guide. There are a number of uses in the guide that have dates etc. But as it is, Cooper never gets back to editing those things although I’ll remind him to do so. Updates and new info on doing something better than before or answers to new problems constantly evolve. Thus a number of additions to the guide accrue throughout the year. It be something as simply as 1 paragraph on a certain topic that is added.
These small updates are slight and would have no overall bearing on an operator using the guide to run their operation. But the guide is a forever ongoing creation and every new thing is added. Normally the larger bulk of new information is gathered towards the end of the year. A week long or more process of imputing it is done and the guide grows by pages at that point.
We do not sell every little update either. When one purchases the guide, we instruct them that at their choosing they can purchase an entirely new copy of the guide for the cost of printing & freight. Some choose to do so on a yearly basis as a way to stay fresh on running their business. So just know that while there are dates etc in places etc. the guide is always on the cutting edge of the newest knowledge in the industry.

I am sorry but the book I have has information about contacts that is totally out dated and has been so for several years and I got my book only 7 months ago.
The bottom line is this. The book is expensive. It has some good information. It has some outdated information. It is a guide. It is written from the authors viewpoint.
These are facts that are pointed out in the first few pages.
I didn't have any choice about purchasing a new copy when I ordered the book and I was told it was photo copied so there would be no refund if I wasn't satisfied. That was in May of 2005.
I may be the exception to the rule but that was my experience.

Andy - It being a new year, has the book just been updated? If not, when do you think the next bulk gathering of information and updating will be made to the book. I would like to plan on purchasing it at that time.
Thanks!

I bought this book the summer of 2006. I thought it had a lot of very good information in it. Some of the information seemed specific to the authors experience. Even though I would not do something the same way he did. I still thought the the information was helpful. If you are opening a new field this book can only help you. Some of the information I already had found while searching the internet or was answered by other field owners. So reading it in this HUGE book just confirmed for me that it was good information. Then there was the things I had not thought of did not know about.

guy
If this guy knows so much about running a successful paintball field, why does he need so much money for his books? I know a very successful field owner, and he does not need money, and he would not publish a book to teach the competition. This sounds dumb.

200 dollars for business book is not much. By reading just some of the chapters, a starting fieldowner can avoid simple mistakes and save thousands of dollars.

So where can I get the book?
I went to the website and there isn't anything about purchasing one? Is there anyway I can go through another website? Maybe one that photocopies them and sells them off?
