Not sure where you have been playing (or if you have...) but I started back last June when things in GA opened back up. Even as recently as two weeks ago the feel of the game outside of the field has changed. People are either wearing masks off the field or staying away from each other 6+ feet. I would be hesitant to go to a big game like this but honestly, I have been quarantined a few times and I have always worked from home and haven't been exposed directly myself. My wife and kids have had to quarantine because of direct exposure from going to work and I was stuck at home too to be sure I didn't give it to anyone else until we had an all clear on results.
So I have played almost every week or 2 since last June and not had one issue from going to a field, but going to work every day my family has taken more risks. We are all now vaccinated (at least the first one) and will be fully vaccinated in a few weeks. But things for me at the field will stay the same.
At the field I think the feel has changed but everyone is still enjoying the game and playing. I chose not to go to this big event but we have large crowds playing every week at our field. We talk further away from each other and only fist bump here and there. That's even a little weird to me but I wear gloves. I think things are safer on most paintball fields than people realize. Going to the store or work is probably much more risky for most people.
Play/don't play I don't care. If you don't feel safe stay home. But I'm 51 and playing for 10 more years isn't guaranteed for me. I love the sport. If I am going to do something risky in life that might get me covid, I would rather it be on the paintball field than going to Walmart. Just my $0.02 worth. Regardless, I'm glad the game went well.
