I think it is a good mix of teams. The format is going to create some surprises I think. I could see a team like Mutiny and Hurricanes doing really well in the 4 pod format.

I also think the fact that this is a one off event will make teams play more risky since there isnt season rankings or anything else in the mix.

NYX should have gotten in on this.

I think NYX is listed in the open division of the NXL Cali event.

I heard they were the ones pushing to have that division added.

The division with 1 pro and one semi pro team signed up.

That’s events numbers across the board are abysmal.

CA is really expensive for ~85% of the paintball world to travel to. It isnt 2005 anymore an a CA based event doesn't make sense with the majority of tournament teams coming from Texas, the Northeast, and Florida.

I agree. I'm sure they thought they could pull in the WCCPL crowd and some NWP teams but its not looking likely.

Why would WCPPL teams go play NXL when their league is like 60% cheaper overall for costs and just as, if not more, competitive?

Never said that they would, I said that the NXL assumed they could get them since that is the only regional base out there.

The WCPPL is dominating southern California and Arizona, this past weekend there were just under 100 teams for 4 divisions. Better cash prizes and less than half the cost for entry. The only reason why a WCPPL team would play an NXL is for clout.
I think the NXL did assume half of them would want to play NXL Sacramento, and I think they'd rather go play BunkerFest or CEPL in northern CA.
So, I hope this Astra event brings something new and different. The 4 pod limit is cool, but I also hope they remove some of the giant bricks or wedges, and open up some of the lanes. They have a good opportunity to do something outside the box, and I'm excited for it. Irregardless, it's more paintball that has the chance to reach viewers, and help grow the sport.

Mutiny
Blast Camp
New England Hurricanes

I wish they were doing a live stream because some of these games will be awesome to watch live.
Aftermath and Diesel really shouldn’t be playing imo, I think they need some more d1 teams... maybe even some elite d2 teams if they want to see where they’re at. Sounds like a solid pro/am division though. With aftermath and diesel playing, I’d honestly count it as a pro division/pro win for whoever wins.

Yup. If your team has the cash you go play Cup because... Cup... but other than that you pay less, get more, and don't travel as far for WCPPL.

I don't know how the competition stacks up. There are tough teams from all over. But WCPPL teams pretty consistently make top 4 at the NXL events when they do bother to show up.

I kinda like that it's post production only. I feel like I don't have to choose between this and NXL and get to hopefully see a more refined product after.

can't seem to easily find info on this. i was able to see that SDA got 2nd place, but can't seem to find out who got 1st.

Impact won the NXL Open today against Dynasty. Not a huge surprise there with the roster Dynasty had.

So Blast Camp got their first pro win before most of the current pro teams (who most likely never will). Neat.

  1. No Upping threads. If you have something to say, please do, but don't post in the thread just to take it to the top of the forum.
