How is this a substitute for a barrel sock? I guess Ive never tried firing any of my markers without a barrel before TBH. Whats the science behind this? No back pressure behind the ball after it passes the detents?

Sorry to revive a dead post. But you answered your own question with the back pressure comments. Without a barrel the ball has almost zero force and will only travel a few feet. Works the same as firing a real bullet without a barrel.
