That's awesome. How long have you been doing that for, and what role specifically do you do for the team? I know that stuff is highly specialized.

I grew up around the industry, specifically Mercedes-Benz corporate. Have worked for dealers doing various summer jobs in the past, but wound up going into a different industry full time.

I've been in this company for about 7 years. I started doing track support on the weekends just doing mechanical inspections, fuel and tires. That lead to the full time job where I currently hold many titles. It's a smallish race team so that's not hard. But I am the crew chief on event weekends and in the shop I am the shop foreman, lead fabricator and lead electrician. I was the lead mechanic but I've been so busy with everything else I've given up that title.

A few more pictures for kicks
The lambo and the Vulcan aren't ones I service but just the kinds of cars I get to see lol

Very sweet. Sounds like you got a good gig going.

What would you say was the hardest issue you've come across and had to fix in one of these things? I'm going to guess something electrical.

It's okay. It looks a lot better looking in vs out. The deadlines pretty much eliminate any possibility of time off or regular hours. Hardest issue on a normal track version would be cooling. These were not designed for US climates what so ever. Everything needs a cooler and custom ducting! But we do prototype testing and development side by side with the factory and that is a hell of a task. Electrical being one of the hardest and most time consuming of tasks when adapting new components.

Oh wow. I did not consider the cooling element, but it makes sense given that you're in NV. Time off and regular hours means things are unpredictable? Is that just in general throughout the year, or only closer to track days AKA when things start breaking?

Just being in the USA makes climate an issue when the UK's highest recorded temp ever is 101 Fahrenheit and their average is 65. Yes very unpredictable! I don't know when I'll have to work late to meet a deadline or when a testing day will be scheduled last minute. There have been times where I've worked 30+ days straight with no days off with mostly 12+ hour days. Things like doctors appointments and travel plans have to be flexible and there's only winter and summer where it slows down. Even then those might be your busiest times depending on if the cars are still in good shape or not.

I think I see where you're coming from now about the novelty of unpredictability wearing off.

Do you often travel with the cars if they are racing around the country or abroad? Or just Nevada mostly?

I'm a freelance automotive journalist. To piggyback on the cool stuff loser555 has shared, here's an article I wrote about the Lotus Evora:

I do marketing at a few exotic / luxury dealerships and do photography for a number of higher profile brands within the industry. Get quite a bit of seat time in pretty much everything I've ever wanted to drive which is cool.

loser555, I've been playing around with the idea of picking up an exige for a while now. What are your thoughts on them as far as a street car? I have drive a few older elises, and enjoy them. Although I will say I am not a huge fan of the evora.

I'm kind of the opposite, haha. I really enjoy learning how my marker works and wrenching on it with the skills I've learned from cars & motorcycles.

It's cold and snowy in Ohio, so I'm mostly just collecting parts, waiting for it to warm up so I can tear into my various projects. What about you, shockerman?
