Bolt Sail Oring DM5/DM6/DM*

I have a DM5 and DM6, and I am getting pretty tired of always having to replace the 015 bolt sail oring. (As I am sure that you all are).

I am wondering if replacing the 015 oring with an X ring would solve this issue and I am curious if anyone has tried it?

Thanks

It’s not really a great location for an Xring.

That’s not to say you might have good luck with one there.

Generally you want an Xring to remain stationary while something else can move over it that doesn’t lose contact or have a bunch of holes to pass over. An example of this is the inner Can 017 spots.

In the case of the Bolt Switch, the Bolt reciprocates and has airflow holes that the Xring will have to deal with - not the best location for Xrings.

I’d recommend trying a 016 Oring maybe if you are having problems getting the Bolt Sail Oring to seal. Or possibly a softer 60 durometer Viton 015 Oring?

I have no problem with it sealing, they just wear out a little quick. I have installed some 50 durometer orings, so maybe that will help.

Ok, good luck then.

If it still wears fast (or faster) then try a Viton Oring durometer 60 or 75...

What are you talking about? The bolt sail oring on DMs don't pass over any holes. The bolt sail would probably do fine with an xring. And I think a softer durometer oring will wear faster than a harder one. If you want longevity, I'd switch materials first.

I was thinking of the airflow holes for Bolt Return and Forward movement but you are right.

The only thing that would have to deal with those is the Bumper Orings.

I nearly never *have* to change the 015 for maintenance purposes, and I service a bajillion Dye markers. It's also been my main play marker from day 1.

As such it's a headscratcher to read "always" doing it. How is it failing?
