At LVL UP, the number of teams that show up is getting more consistent, and now there's a page for x-ball folks to communicate. You could potentially meet some good dudes closer to the field who might let you crash when you come to play!

Also, the pro-shop has really come along and they'll be launching an online store soon too I think.

here's the link, open for anyone to join

Might give it a shot when it warms up. Biggest thing for me is anything local has poor turnout. Looks like this could fix that.

There's always open play numbers there. I usually go every other week and I can only recall one or two weeks in the past year where the numbers were low (3v3 or so).

I’m looking to get back into the sport once fields open up again after ~10 year hiatus. How friendly is Lvl up to walk ons for xball? Is it reasonable to think I’d get consistent games without being affiliated with a team?

Short answer: its a bit of a crap shoot. Some days are better for walks ons than others, but if you ask around enough you'll be able to get a decent amount of points in.

Long answer: It depends on the time of year. During the off season when the smaller group of dedicated guys are running points, you'll have no problem jumping on. During the season you will probably want to bring some buddies to run with, especially if there's an NXL/MSXL practice happening that weekend (those happen 1-2 weeks before each scheduled event so that's something to look out for). However, on the busy days, there are occasionally "randoms" teams put together which makes point frequency a lot more consistent. This usually happens when the pro team runs an organized practice with a schedule.

Bottom line is, as long as you introduce yourself to people and make it known that you want to jump on for spins, you will be able to play a good amount. The guys that just sit on the bleachers or randomly walk onto the field in between points unfortunately usually get ignored/pushed aside.
