I agree. If you can find a cheap steak and some veggies you can make a cheap meal or two in a stir fry.

Ideas-
Steak or chicken
celery
green pepper
red pepper
pea pods
broccoli
corn
peas
mushrooms
rice or noodles
sauces

clothes optional.

Red peppers are so expensive, just cheaper to stick with green pepper since there is not a whole lot of taste difference. Especially in stirfry.

So it looks like I may lose about a weeks worth of my limited supply of food. Power went out across campus and I had just gone shopping a couple of days ago. Not to mention all my appliances are electric.

Any ideas on cold foods to have other than sandwiches?

That sucks, you should get some free meals from campus for that. And how about a salad?

Chili is a good cheap college food.

80 cents apiece for a can of tomatoes, a can of kidney beans, and a packet of chili seasoning, 2-3 bucks for a pound of ground beef. Makes 2 hearty meals--or more if you eat it with a salad or another side.

It keeps really well too so if you double the recipe you can eat it all week.

Lunch meat ftw. The four of us hit up ShopRite once a week and get about 3-4 pounds of meat and 1-2 pounds of cheese.

As for dinner, I make a homemade meat sauce once a week for pasta. Frozen raviolis are a great idea too. Macaroni and cheese, soup, eggs, all great ideas.

Im at arizona now (UA) and its pretty bad. Our campus grocery store jacks up the prcie of all food by about 15% compared to a grocery store.

A 12 pack of coke (cans) is 7.50

****ing captive audience strategy.

Anybody know any good recipies that you can make with only a microwave.

I hate that about college grocery stores. Take the bus to one further away.

As for microwaves--
Bean Dip.
Microwave a can of refried beans in a bowl or a deep dish, add shredded cheese on top, add sour cream and salsa. You can add other stuff too, if you are into lettuce, olives, etc. Eat with tortilla chips, or wrap in a tortilla for a bean burrito.

Also, a bag of potatoes is a good investment. They are cheap, they don't go bad for a really long time, and you can just stab them with a fork and pop them in the microwave until they get soft. Add some cheese, sour cream, and butter, and voila!

If you like vegetables, there are a lot of steam-in-bag frozen veggies you can buy. If there's a Trader Joe's nearby, they have really excellent frozen meals also.

well for the first 3 weeks on campus my oven was out of use so i had a 16 dollar toaster oven that kept me and my roommate fed. **** was great.

Some of my favorite things to make.

Take thin slices of chicken breast, dip them in lightly beaten egg, then into some bread crumbs, lay them out, then put some swiss cheese on them and some cooked ham, at the supermarket you can buy the thin slices of cooked ham for like 2 bucks. Then roll them up tightly, and bake them for like 15-20 minutes at around 380*. During the last 5 minutes or so pull them out and put some swiss cheese and ham on top of it.

Bread sticks-
3 cups flour, 1 teaspoon salt, 1 tablespoon baking powder, if you want garlic bread sticks put in an extra half teaspoon of salt and one tablespoon of garlic powder, then mix in 1-1.5 cups of milk, then on a surface with some flour kneed it over a little bit, then take a pan put like 1/4 cup of butter and 1 tablespoon of olive oil on it, preheat oven to 425* so that the butter melts, be careful not to burn it. You can either take parts of the dough and roll them up and place them on pan or just roll out the dough into a rectangle to fit the pan. Cook for like 20 minutes or so.

However, I am also a big fan or tortellini, ravioli, and pasta. Can buy it really cheap at like BJs/Cosco in bulk, quick and easy.

A good addition to that is onions, sauerkraut and little mustard and pepper.

I just found a great simple recipe.
I've never liked top ramen in the past until this. Its flavor is just too fake and bland alone.

1x Top Ramen
1x Campbell's Chicken Noodle Soup (dry mix)

Start by cooking the top ramen in boiling water and just before it is finished throw in the noodle soup mix.

I throw away the top ramen flavor.
