Old School Tricks?

What are some of the old school PB tricks that you just don't see anymore?

Maybe people still do this but here's one I remembered the other day. Is the bore on your barrel too big to match the paint? Stick some electrical tape down the barrel.

Here's another one. Maybe this is where the frozen PB myth started?

But when I first started playing PB I remember seeing a lot of guys store their paintballs in coolers. I remember a few guys saying that the air tightness of the cooler helped the paintballs "last longer". But really I think before totes were available everywhere it was just a convenient way of packing up and storing your gear.

An oldie but a goodie from the days of 12 gram CO2 cartridges...
When changing out the cartridges out, there is always some residual CO2 left and when the pressure was released, it would leak out while you were changing over and announce to everyone around that you what you were doing. Typically this was the time that the opposing team would rush you and take you out due to your inability to shoot.
Clever players would get a rubber band and a thumb tack and wrap the band around your thumb to hold the tack's pointy end sticking out.
During the middle of a heated battle, you would grab a full 12 gram and pierce the top of it with the thumb tack and wait for the opposition to rush in like hogs to the feed trough, shooting them in the process.

Going with the signature above, putting a bit of CO2 into the early compressed N2 tanks. Old timers will know about the team rumored to have done this.

The "Dead Mans Walk".

Many a Woodsball tournament game even at pro level was won with the Dead Mans Walk.

Where a player is around others getting hit and they just stand up and walk off with them like they were leaving the game. But they would stay in bounds and on the field and walk to the flag station , grab the flag, come back behind the other side shoots a few players in the back and runs in the flag.

Back then the ref pulled your arm band when hit. If you did NOT raise your hand like you were shot and just walked off armband still on , the refs just watched and didnt say a thing. A smart guy would do it with the armband on the tape side so his body hid it.

I hated the Dead Mans walk.

Another tournament trick not seen any more was the "Freight Train" on one tape.
Navarone and some other teams would do it in the 15 man and 10 man days. A team would burst out of the flag station and send 7 to 12 guys to one tape (side) and the other 3 would spread the rest of the field to give the illusion of shooting from across the field.

Teams would put their biggest two guys at the front as the " engine " and run in a line behind them. The idea was to run right into the other teams 2 to 3 guys on the tape and just over run them, break through the line and start to flank the other team immediately by shooting them in the back before they figured out what had happened.

The bigger guys would usually keep running towards you when hit and block the others until the refs pulled them.

It would happen right at the start of the game and if you werent ready for it and had not practiced for it you could lose the game in 2 minutes!

However if you were ready for it you could shut it down hard and win just as quickly. We would notice the smaller amount of incoming from the other tape and middle then hear the roar as 7 to 12 guys started hammering our other tape.

We would call out "FREIGHT TRAIN RIGHT " or left ( depending what tape they were hitting ) then peel off a few guys from each of our areas to hit them hard and fast in the side and flank them.

Theyd usually be all in a line without enough cover on the tape line , so if you identified it, reacted quickly the game was yours.

We did it to the All Americans in the Finals of the North American Championship 15 Man at Skirmish in 1988 or 89 when they tried a Freight Train on our right tape , and shot all 15 of them and hung the flag in around 2 minutes.

One of those either Wins big for you or you lose big tactics.

Unscrewing your barrel a few screws and then pressing the tip down on the chrono so the ball had "more drag" in the barrel. Usually dropped the FPS around 10 FPS. Shooting almost straight down to the ground in front of the chrono. The older chrono's wouldn't read those correctly and you could shoot a little hotter.
The All A's were the team that used to make the compressed air/CO2 cocktail back in the day. The back guys also used to chrono with a smaller ball then fill all their pods with a larger diameter ball to get a few extra FPS back in the huge 10 man field days.

Yea I learned that one pretty fast and made sure I nor my team ever fell victim to it.
