Personally I'm not willing to fly in for cup if it is heavily restricted. Its not like the season is on the line..

Why not try to host this somewhere in the midwest that is more unaffected by the virus? Why hold it in what is rapidly becoming the coronavirus capital of the USA?

I do not believe there will a WC this year. I'm glad that NXL had contingency plans in place to go ahead if possible though.

On a side note, the idea of a limited Pro / Semi Pro event is interesting, but I doubt it makes fiscal sense to hold an event without the divisional teams.

IMO World Cup should occur but Pro only. Maybe semi-pro but this doesn't feel like a season worth relegating a pro team down or a semi-pro team up based on just two events.

I do think the event should happen at an established field. Seems like a waste of effort and money to do all the setup required in Orlando for a way scaled down event. Paintball Fit in Texas makes sense to me with the caveat that CV19 cases are more under control at the time here. Lots of flight options into Dallas and a superb facility with multiple fields. I'm sure there are other fields across the US that could host as well.

I have a hard time seeing it happen in Florida. The governor there has so far taken a pretty firm stance that there will be no new measures taken to limit the spread of the virus. If it does happen, you'll likely have quite a few teams opt out, either by choice or because there are symptomatic players on the team that simply couldn't play if they wanted to. A world cup without all the top teams would carry a pretty big asterisk for the winner(s).

Holding the event elsewhere also seems unlikely as most of the places that aren't spiking right now like New England have fairly strict restrictions on group gatherings. The handful of states that aren't spiking and don't have strict restrictions likely will be spiking by then with kids going back to school 8-10 weeks before the event. Basically, I'm thinking it won't happen at all.

It makes good sense but I'd imagine there are deposits and logistics that make moving the show impossible. Without knowing any of the inner workings, I don't see how the NXL could make any money in 2020. I'd expect them to do nothing outside of trying to run a slimmed down WC and focus on tournament paintball in 2021/beyond.

I cant see it happening, especially in a state with the fastest growing number of cases and no want to combat it.

NXL World Cup: Utah....

But for real I dont see it happening.

Thumbs up Yes

Yes! I believe Tom will pull through in some form of World Cup.

Even some form of limited version (3 mans, 1v1s, ect), I'd be happy to watch.

Correct. I'd wager the ICPL's aren't likely to happen either. However, those players are just...different lol. I think the player want to play Cup, but it's not worth the legal risk to event organizers. Mr. Cole has the intentions to play, I get it, but is the juice worth the squeeze?

No one is forcing people to play, I get it, but I don't see organization run on this margins wanting to "risk it all" for another event this year. You asked, and I said No, before Mr. Cole posted. I still see it as a No, but it's probably a "Yes, but".

Unless current trajectories make a drastic change, I don't think holding cup (anywhere, but especially in Florida) is the responsible thing to do.

Ignoring the potential risk for exposure at the event itself, traveling to/from cup poses in my opinion, an even higher risk for exposure to the players and staff. Airports, hotels, and any other sort of travel are certainly risk multipliers.

My thought is that if even one person contracts covid-19 due to cup we have done ourselves as a sport and community a disservice.

I really wanted to go to cup this year, I even have a job where I have enough PTO to do so, but man does it just not feel like the right thing to do.

Stay safe and healthy everyone.

I can't see much in the way of a full World Cup. Maybe pro only, maybe the way to run it would be to bump it to being a bonus 2021 event before Event 1 of 2021, assuming Covid allows for that. Hard to say at this point, but seeing other big events cancel/postpone to next year, it seems unlikely we'll see a full Cup event at the correct time.

You guys should listen to Tyler Harmon/Marcello Margott podcast with Tom Cole (President of the NXL)....they touch on this topic. Tom Cole goes on to say that having a World Cup is their top priority. Says that it could happen where they only bring the Pros/Semi-Pro teams and have an event.

I can definitely see a pro bracket or semi pro bracket happening If at all. But will the vendors commit to having their big booths there this year for 2 Weekends? Seems like an unprofitable venture who knows? Like some have said before, big props for nxl trying make something happen, and I really hope there is something 80% or more compared to last year but I don’t fault them if it doesn’t

And yeah I can see this season being a write off on appa and everything coming back to kinda normal in 2021. I felt like if the corona wasn’t going to be over back in May then it’s going to drag into spring 2021.

Will there be? Possibly, we already know Americans aren't very good at making intelligent decisions regarding COVID-19.

Should there be? Hell no. The risk involved, even if it was just limited to the Pro bracket, is too great.

I think just just having it as a SP/Pro event would possibly be a way to save something but I don't know if that would make fiscal sense. If they went that route, then they would probably just be breaking even or making a razor thin profit. The NXL makes all their money from the divisional teams. Even with a scaled back Cup with no trade show and a much smaller field setups and a skeleton crew of staff there are still costs like insurance, renting the venue, cleanup, etc. There would probably be a huge uptick in GoSports subscriptions tho.
