Who does open play anymore?

Buddy was saying Tholey's field is done, according to their website, it looks like APPG is basically just group play now, and places like Xphere bit the dust shortly after I left the game nearly a decade ago.

So... where's the best place to go for open play now? I'm just looking to play again, and really don't care if its woodsball, hyperball, or speedball at this point.

Annandale Paintball does open play Saturdays and Sundays starting usually in April. They have an airball field, city field, and a smaller hyperball/concept field built for .50 cal but capable of supporting .68 ball. Open play numbers vary on the day and whether groups are willing to allow walk-ons to play with them. Discount Sundays and Battle of the Beef are fun, wallet-friendly events run throughout the year.

Your best bet for organized airball without a team would be Sunday Challenges on 4/26, 6/14, 7/12, 8/30, 11/1. Tournament-style atmosphere, 5-man race-2 matches, real NXL timer/scoring system, some reffing, decent cost. Come alone and get put on a team or come with a group and compete together.

Is this a recent development for Vintage PB? public play is still bookable on the website and they just posted open play pics on FB from this last weekend. Or have I misunderstood something?

That is hard to say outside of event days. I know you can always call and ask what the booked schedule looks like.

I went to see if MN Pro does and their website still does list walk on play on Saturdays (they've rebranded it appears to Champion Valley and do a bunch of stuff.) but I have no idea what turn out is like as I haven't been there since 2017. Same for paint prices which they also seem to leave off of their site.

That's what a buddy said that plays tournaments still with air assault, so that's all I was running off that with.

I just don't want to go somewhere to have no one around to play, I've heard the scene is dying off and there definitely seems to be a hard push towards rental play and groups specifically around now from what I've seen on websites.

Open play at Pro was pretty active last year. It being on Saturdays is bad but also good because it limits people to that one day. I would bring a group out there and we would take em all on, transformers style, sometimes doing 8v40. Pretty fun! However during the slow times (end of school (May-June) and towards the end of summer (Late Aug) it was slower. Maybe 20 people out there.

I plan to keep my team private this year at FOD and branch out for open play at Pro and big games at Vintage this year when schedule allows.

Vintage Paintball just across the border in WI has open play on Saturday and Sunday. Turn out is pretty good, I like to get there right after they open to have a few games with smaller teams. 7 fields, typical games are elimination style, but if you alternate styles they are open to mixing it up.

I know that Annandale changed the date of their first Sunday Challenge so it is during May but I don't remember off-hand which date.

We are going to have a Sunday Challenge on June 14th if you are looking for Airball time. Otherwise our Open play has been pretty good at Annandale this year

Vintage has been back up since COVID for about 5-6 weeks. Biggest open play games I played in was 20 V 20 on a Saturday. This next Sunday the 28th is World Paintball Day and Vintage is offering free admission. Pretty solid turn our with a 50/50 mix of rentals and owners.

I'll have to try and make it over to Vintage on Sunday if I can, definitely need to get back out there and make sure my CS1 even works.

MNPro or whatever they're calling it now seemed pretty dead the Saturday we stopped out there and just grabbed some paint and air to test some stuff. APPG only does rental groups now, per the guy I talked to on the phone.

We offer open play every Saturday and Sunday noon - 4. We have been fortunate to have a decent turnout both days for a while now.
