SLG vs PMR

I hope I'm posting this in the right place but what is the difference between the SLG and the PMR? I might be picking either 1 of them up used (getting back in the sport after 6 years want something decent sub 200) but don't know what's different between them. Am I wrong in thinking that they were both being made at the same time? Any preference between the two?

They're totally different animals, the Proto Matrix Rail(PMR) is a spool valve similar to Ions.
The Proto Reflex Rail (PRR) is a newer, slightly improved version of the PMR

The SLG is a mechanically operated spool valve that uses a sear&solenoid system somewhat like a Spyder electro uses(Spyder is a stacked tube blowback bolt sytem). It was pretty much a problematic design and was only produced 2 years,Dyes biggest flop ever

I'd take an Ion over any gun under $300, the only thing that shoots as good in that price range would be a really good deal on an Axe.PM7-9(different than the PMR) is another gun that's very good

Copy that. I'm working on trying to pick one up now. As far as upgrades for the ion, clamping feed neck, asa on/off and maybe a trigger and a barrel? Just test fired my old one that a friend of mine has last night and wow I forgot how quiet it is.

That's about all you'd need to get going, there's some bolts or board upgrades that can help.Avoid adding a QEV unless you're going for high ROF as it negates the anti chop.Best bolts are the Techt L7,or if you can find a L6(near impossible) or Firebolt, all other bolt upgrades get minimal returns
Here's the best site for info

WOW that is CRAZY. I cannot say for the slg but the pmr is an excellent gun, I have used mine since 07 and we paintball every weekend sometimes 3x a week, leagues ,team skirmishes and this gun does not fail, basic maintenance on an ion is much more difficult because of the enclosed bolt design and the entire gun is cheaper made. the rail bolt can be easily pulled right out f the back.

I have no idea what I'm wanting to get now. Considering I need an air tank and mask too. Originally went back to getting an etek 4. (Local feild is a planet dealer and if I get a marker or spend over $300 with them then I get a free membership for the year). But knowing all the other stuff I want to get I may just get a PMR from them to start with to get me going again, then if I really wanna to play with the teams I'll get a Geo 3 or something. Seem like sound logic? I want to avoid buying used right now.

Having owned and shot both; an SLG is more like shooting the best entry level gun as opposed to the PMR is almost like a budget DM alternative for the time period.
