The newer 08+ bodies have similar body porting to the VS line so i'm not sure the reason you need to cover it, but i can see why it would be worth a shot since the bodies are shorter. I was under the assumption that you need the length for it to cycle proper with a balance valve. Essentially the the newer spyders are built like a frame forward mod on a older spyder which was based on the AMG grip, which basically just moved the sear in an inch. Less force needed to push the striker back, means less air to fire and combined with a lower operating pressure the need for a higher weight spring to fire the valve pin in the first place was negated.
