i seen someone has a gold bolt for it. is this a good upgrade?

"gold-bolt"....

refers simply that the bolt was anno'd, this bolt is still made of aluminum. The only alternative bolt for the demon was made by Invictus which used a rubber nose on the bolt face and modified front engine cage. It was intended for use with very brittle paint. only 10 sets made it to the states, 5 anno'd a lime green and 5 raw. I obtained all 10. One I personally run, the other was given as a gift to a good "friend" of mine who sold it off. Another I also gave to a good friend who still currently uses it.

As far as "upgrades" for this marker there are very few, it was designed and built quite well the first time. I have a few ideas in the works that I hope to reveal in 2016.

is the 2013 upgrade worth it? just grabbed a 2012 Demon and i wasn't sure if i should consider the upgrade.

The 2012 requires less maintenance, the 2013 update lowers operating pressure and increases efficiency. This update is not mandatory. Stick to 2012 for your first vanguard marker, creed/demon.
