SYX 1.5 for speedball

Not new, but haven't played in about 10 years. Interested in playing primarily speedball, and looking for a good mid-range to get back into the sport with. I'm seeing good things about the 1.5 but just worried that I'll.....outgrow it too quickly. Is it worth getting now, or should I just swallow the hard pill and go with something like a DSR or 170r?

The Syx 1.5 is a decent all around marker for Speedball or whatever. It has good ergonomics and will definitely keep up and be somewhat gentle on Paint.

Choosing between it and the DSR or 170r is more personal preference and $$.

It definitely helps if you can at least hold or shoot them before you buy.

As long as I'm not going to feel hamstrung in 6 months, I'm fine with it. What I'm seeing from my initial research is that there's something of a diminishing return when it comes to markers these days (I may be way off on that. This is literally like day 4 of research at getting back into it).

It feels like a $4-500 marker is going to be very competitive for a lot of people, so I just want to make sure I'm avoiding buyers remorse as much as possible.

Shiiiiit don’t I know it. I felt that hit when I sold my gear back in 08. Yeah I’ve found some good deals on used markers so I’ll be going that route for sure

The axe 6 can keep up with anything. Maintenance is a breeze, parts are super cheap, you can't go wrong. Pick up a used one. Don't get caught up in the paintball cold war. It's mostly about skill. So long as your gun can keep up to the ROF limits reliably you're good to go.

Welp. Guess Im part of the family now. The guy I bought it from met me at a local field and let me run a hopper through it. Thing shot like a dream. Went corner to corner and was putting balls in a 1x1 box. Cant wait for USPS to release the rest of my stuff from captivity so I can go play!!

Awesome! When you get time make sure you pick up some spare parts, but other than that enjoy!

Which parts do you recommend? Figure I should grab them now before the season starts in earnest

Overgassed it by accident (set the velocity too high and when I gassed it up it air started puking from the ASA). Now it's skipping shots and the bolt isn't returning if I try to walk the trigger. Single shots are fine though. How broken is it?

Edit: walking the trigger with the eyes off and no hopper, the gun works like a champ.

Done. As it turns out it’s just my marker hating reballs. I had a bunch of unknown age paint a buddy had given me that I decided to run through my setup just to see. Had one barrel break but the rest of the hopper ran fine. Dunno. Guess we’ll see for sure Saturday.

If you want to run crappier or more fragile paint, instead of increasing the regulator pressure, increase your dwell time setting. This will have the effect of increasing your velocity with less air pressure, which means it will be a little easier on brittle paint. Higher dwell means lower regulator pressure, lower dwell means higher regulator pressure. You can play around with this ratio to see if it helps at all. The factory settings will be set to most reliable out of the box settings. Since it's a new gun I wouldn't go with a lower dwell setting until it's well broken in, but higher is rarely an issue. The only down side is it will be less efficient with higher dwell in most cases. A small price to pay if it prevents ball breaks in my mind.

Other things you can do are run a larger bore barrel. Raise the eye detection time if possible in the settings. Keep your paint as warm as possible. If you're running a rotor make sure the stack pressure isn't too high. Keep your ROF at a reasonable level.
