but if you are going to offer colors/patterns, anodize the whole marker. If just the body and frame are a custom color but the barrel, regulator, feedneck, ASA, etc are left black and not anodized to match it looks terrible.

BLACK Depending on the gun and milling, Gloss is preferred and then Dust. I’m a sucker for some Blue guns, either in dust or gloss. Solid colors as well. SP Paintball seems to achieve some of the best Dust annos ever, just had to mention that.

Polished
Black, Gun Metal, Blue
Fade and/or Splash combinations in those colors is nice looking.

Black/Black is great, dust black with polished black accents is better.
I personally love the dark grey/charcoal with black accents as well.
And a solid red marker always looks great, as long as it is a dark or true red. The bright red isn't as good.
My Top 5, in order:
- Dust Black / Polish Black
- Dust Grey / Dust Black
- Dust Red / Dust Red
- Polished Red / Polished Black
- Dust Black / Dust Black

gonna venture a wild guess and say dust black is the most popular as with dust you can hide machining marks, and black will hide flaws the easiest to.
i prefer bright gloss colors, clown, purple, tiffany blue.

My personal preference is polished purple but popularity is different. I would say that dust is in style and the top colors are the standard color palette of black, red, blue, and green with silver and gray being just outside that.
I wish polish was back in style. It’s far better than dust imo.

I prefer a good dust finish, color wise black/red/blue/silver in roughly that order.

I tend to like Dust black with polished black parts ...
And Pink ... mainly in splashes, fades and Pooty style markers.

Gloss red for the win! I traded for a gloss red droid back in the day...the gun was pretty beat up when I received it (little scratches here and there, completely gummed in paint and dirt, the rear fangs on the body milling were smashed and bent)...but I put a lot of love and care into detailing it and when I was done I remember polishing the body with a soft rag...when I was through I was staring at the side and I could see my reflection in the anno...it was so gorgeous, I remember thinking. Why I haven’t hunted down another polished red, I don’t know.
Otherwise I also thought polished like green and black was pretty slick, planets Blink and Poison were always cool combos and you can’t go wrong with the rich color combination of Black with Gold accents!

Since the question seems to encompass all paintball guns, the obvious answer is flat/matte black. I'd venture a guess that the bulk of the guns sold are be Tippmann 98s, Tippmann A5s, PE Emeks, etc.
If you were to narrow down the question to speedball guns I'd have to take a wild guess, and I'd say blue, with some shade of black in the top three along with silver.
As to my personal preferences, I always had either blue or green speedball guns. Nowadays I tend to prefer dust anno. Two schemes I particularly like would be anything 'Joker' (purple with green accents) or PE's Vyper (black with lime green accents).
I play a lot in the woods now so I tend to go for more subdued schemes. PE's HDE would be a good example of that.
