Wink Boston Paintball Combine XI: Greenspan, Slowiak, Ryan & Fedorov

It happened last year, posting update after update about Combine X - where we had brought in by far the biggest roster to date: From Los Angeles Infamous Nicky Cuba and Brad McCurley, from San Diego Dynasty Ryan Greenspan, from local pro team Nick Slowiak of 187 Crew and Mr Paintball himself, last coaching Omaha Vicious (golf cart not included) Todd Martinez with his very storied history. The little red notification alerted me to a like on a recent photo - and the fangirl status ensued.

The Combine is quite a few things, but mostly it is a #tradition. It started 11 years ago when Boston Paintball was in Somerville with the legendary Greg “Red” Hastings and evolved over the past few years to include some of the biggest and most talented players in the game. The Combine is the event that not only introduces players from all over the Northeast to their paintball idols, it is the event that helps those players make connections and make the jump from recreational play to the more competitive side of tournament paintball.

Explained: Most often used in football, the concept is easy to understand. An organized event that pulls players from all over the country (or in this case a region) and provides them the avenue in which they can showcase their raw talent to coaches and scouts interested in recruiting them. Drills and scrimmages that best display a players ability to play a position, to play the game are run and players are ultimately in control of their own fate. The goal is to take the next step, put yourself out there, be inspired by the players around you that bring challenge to your door and make you work harder, get noticed, earn your spot.

Paintball like most sports is ultimately a team sport when you get into the competitive side – but the sum of a team is based on the individual ability of the players. Take into account that not every kid in school is likely to find paintball as easily as they would football and you have a gap in growth. The Boston Paintball Combine takes the concept of a regular sports combine one step further and makes those connections. New, individual players are all brought together in one event where they meet other players hoping to accomplish the same goal – get on a team. We bring in some of the best names in paintball and we put their talents to work helping to bring out and maybe teaching a few new skills in those players boosting their confidence and encouraging them to push further. Captains of existing teams scout the players to fill empty spots, and talents are in fact showcased. Hopefully players are picked up or meet other players and work something out. Part Clinic / Part Tryout ALL heart.

So what’s the fangirl thing got do to with any of this? It’s not hard to use the phrase “some of the best in the game” when you include the list of names we have had the absolute pleasure of being able to drop over the years, names like: Hastings, Bernacchia, Mantoni, Cuba, Slowiak, McCurley, Martinez, Greenspan and Ryan but it helps when you can add arguably one of the best players to have ever played to that list, and the players who’s “like” sent me into a frenzy………… Konstantin Fedorov.

Proudly presenting the Combine XI Roster:

Nick Slowiak - Returning for his 5th Combine Coaching appearance, Nick is one of paintball's greatest ambassadors, currently attached to hometown team 187 cRew and has previously played with Houston Heat, across the pond with GK Paris in the Millenium series and with 2011 NPPL champions Chicago Aftershock.

Ryan Greenspan - Returning for his 3rd Combine coaching appearance. Ryan's legend needs no introduction whatsoever, as a founding member of San Diego Dynasty he has captured over 50 Professional tournament wins as well as 3 triple crown championships over his 15 year professional career.

Damian Ryan - Joining the Combine coaching staff for his first appearance, without question one of Team Infamous' most stone cold killers. Damian's skull'd EFlexes and aggresive "up the middle" playing style has been tearing up the pro division for 5 seasons yielding 2 professional wins and a spot in the top 10% of all pro players for the 2015 season.

Konstantin Fedorov - Joining the Combine, in his first US coaching appearance since 2010. Without question one of the greatest players to ever play the sport, Fedorov's stats read as a record book... 15 recorded US wins in 11 seasons and a nearly undefeated record in Europe while playing with Russian Legion, Houston Heat, Art Chaos and the Philadelphia All Americans.

The good news: If you aren’t looking for a team this season, you can still spend quality 16:1 time with each of the pros at this years event. The Beast of the East event is especially for more advanced players who not only want to prove that they are one of the very best here in the Northeast - but will win and take home an exclusive Special Edition CS1 as all the proof they need.

Registration is open AND limited to 64 participants in each event:
CombineXI is Friday February 5th 5PM - 11PM at Boston Paintball in Chelsea
Beast of the East is Super Bowl Sunday AM February 7th at Boston Paintball Chelsea
