So while they require a 5 year re-hydrotest, they do not have the 15 year expiration lifespan which makes a decent argument as an investment. This is especially true when the regulator piece can be changed from the stock brass piece to any of their favorites.
I personally think first strike/GA, Immortal Air, and Ninja regs are garbage due to their easily damagable bonnets, varying coarseness of threads, and rather inconsistent output. I could care less that they all come from china. A lot of really good stuff comes from china. The DM11 is a gorgeous piece, for example.

The Reactor III, Stainless Steel Crossfire regs (pre-SS), and Powerhouse regs look to be the best in terms of quality, performance, and longevity from a handful of tests out there done by me and others.

However, I digress as that's a totally personal thing and could be debated until the cows come home. This thread is just to get people on their feet.

just starting out, thanks for this info. Is a mechanical better for a beginner? debating between a used empire mini and a emek. Thanks

Highly suggest starting with a quality mechanical marker like an Emek, eNMey, Gtek, etc.

Not only are they really satisfying, but they're extremely reliable.

When you progress with your tastes and want to explore different types of markers more, make sure to keep that mech as well to guarantee that you'll always be able to play and have fun no matter what.

Mechanical guns like 15-20 years ago were all pretty garbagey or complex things, since the market really didn't care to pay attention to that style of platform.

Today's mechanicals are so good, that even professional players will be pulling those out of their gearbags for a day of recreational play instead of anything else.
