Let's not forget that when the X was released, the exact same reactions were had and for good reason. Let's not also forget that DLX and SP are under the same umbrella. Most components are probably exact carryovers from the X drive.

The CS2 valve has a poppet face. The DLX/SP copy main valve uses spool seals, like the standard Gamma. It's a Gamma ripoff, not a Gamma Pro ripoff.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
In all seriousness though if Planet opts to let a design infringement go then it's on them. If they want to complain about it that's fine too.
At the end of the day shoot what you like. Everyone gets in the same arguments about Ford vs. GM vs. Dodge and somehow although one introduces a new feature all of them end up with it in a product cycle or two.
I don't see what the big deal is. Not trying to be inflammatory just my honest opinion. People will either support them by buying or "cancelling" their product via new found cancel culture actions.

Jack said it himself on Facebook they didn’t patent the gamma core and it was a mistake. So they cannot sue anyone

If there is no patent it's hard to imagine PE has a leg to stand on for a suit. Jack released a post calling it a clone but, that's probably where the official mud slinging stops.

To a degree I'm with you. I think PE is smart enough to know that trying to litigate copy cats away is an expensive, often fruitless venture.
Right or wrong it's the cost of doing business in this industry.
Why can't these 'avant-garde' designers copy stuff like the POPS ASA? Maybe that part is hard or expensive to make?

Patents are stupid expensive so I sort of get it. I’m going through it right now at work and it’s a lot of time with lawyers. The last one I got I asked what it was going to cost by the time the legal stuff was done and the told me it was going to be about a $40k legal bill. He also told me he advises companies that they either need to set aside $250k to defend it if somebody infringed on it or not to bother because if somebody does infringe on it and you don’t defend it then it’s considered abandoning the patent and anybody can copy your IP after that.

Because they actually patented that one:
https://patents.google.com/patent/US8528877B2/
Personally I think the drama around this is pretty hilarious, made for a pretty entertaining Tuesday watching people whip themselves into such fanboy rages. I don’t really give a toss either way, I like new toys hitting the market.
Based on what I’ve seen I think the AMP looks like it might be a pretty good shootah. It’s in the same price ball park as the 170R, but runs lower pressure and has those Shocker ergonomics I like. Also I suspect the AMP mech, if it uses a cam lever like the CVO will have a much nicer trigger and valve feel than the M170R which is nigh on the same as the £200 EMEK.

Lost me as a customer for sure. Here is my opinion, for what it is worth...
I understand many will be ok with this and that they have the legal room to get away with it, but it is still poor form. Moves like this stifle incentive for innovation and will ultimately increase the cost of new products going to the customer as companies need to invest more to protect designs. With paintball being a niche market, companies need to support each other and attempt to win by innovating, not by copying designs offered in a different package.

And Smart Parts continues the shady business tactics...
Also, great, another badly designed Gamma Core copy. I wouldn’t have bought one anyways lol.
Looks like Dye is the only manufacturer doing something differently, I’ll stick with them.

An interesting take. Because there was apparently no patent on the gamma core, it's perfectly legal to do what they have done. Is it stealing? Probally, but it's also not illegal. I'm not gong to defend them, but this isn't a horrible business move.
The black box? now that was both theft AND lies. (as in, they stole your money and lied about what it did)

the G6R exploded onto the scene and is still a competitive player. If they have any kind of design collaboration with the old BLAST guys, they'll do just fine.

I got to shoot one a few weeks back. The only reason I haven't already ordered one is I don't really play xball anymore but I want a modern gun that I could run a few points if I'm in the mood.
