Pros: Low profile, smooth shot, good insert system
Cons: some out of the box adjustment may be necessary
I picked up the Clone 5 during the Black Friday deal. Initially had some bolt stick issues, so I checked the Nation to see if there was a fix.

The recommended fixes were:

1. Change out the front can O-ring from a 14 to an 012.
2. Up the dwell from stock 12 to 13-15.

Once I made those adjustments (there's an 012 in the spares bag) the bolt stick issues and FSDO went away and the Clone shot great.

The lower operating pressure gave me a very smooth shot and I liked that the overall height from bottom of ASA to top of the back cap was lower than other spools I've shot. I feel like I get a better field of view looking over the top of the Clone.

The redesigned drive train has made it very easy to maintain the bolt and the easy access inline regulator is also simple to service. Simply put, there aren't very many things that can go wrong in a Clone 5, and they're easy to access if they do go wrong.

The Shift 2 inserts are another high point of the Clone. They seem to have a better tolerance than some of the other insert kits out there. Also, they fit more flush with the barrel back. I've had some barrel breaks during the course of use and they squeegee much cleaner internally. I eventually ordered the rest of the insert sizes to fill out my kit.

MacDev prides itself on having some of the most consistent regulators out there. With proper bore matching and decent quality paint, I find my chrono values to be very close shot to shot. While the On/Off isn't my favorite design (I do like the POPS design), it does its job well.

Be advised, due to the lower operating pressure, MacDev stresses not to run high tank output pressures. A mid to low pressure tank at 450-550 psi will do fine for the Clone 5. Also, after degassing the Clone, there may be a residual shot stored in the chamber. Make sure to discharge it in a safe manner.

The ergonomics of the Clone 5 feel very comfortable. With a fully adjustable trigger and the large trigger frame, I can set up the angle and trigger play to suit my personal tastes. The trigger is responsive and snappy, and I haven't felt the need to replace it or make significant adjustments.

The soft case and packaging is good and on par with what is expected for a high end offering. Special mention to the extra long allen key set. Some of the screws in the front grip require extra long allen keys to be able to access. While no air regulator is housed in the front grip, you will need to take it off if you wanted to put a different colored grip on it. It's nice that the case also has cutouts for additional Shift 2 inserts. You can store 4 in the cutouts and the fifth in your barrel back if you opt to order the full range of inserts (.677, .681, and .689) to go with what comes stock (.685, .693).

Once I made the initial adjustments to the Clone 5, I liked it so much I plan on using it as the main in this upcoming tournament season. I highly recommend giving this platform a try if you're looking for a modern high end spool.

I am beyond impressed with this gun, it is a vast improvement on the already good plat from.

The marker has wireless connection between the frame and body of the marker witch makes cleaning it just over all taking apart to get to problem areas so much easier along with not having to worry about eye wires getting pinched. I absolutely love the way this thing feels in the hands, it is a longer feel and for me its perfect, its my favorite part about the gun. They have finally gotten better triggers in there markers as well.

There still is room for improvement with them sense they feel a bit thin to me, i would personal like to make them slightly wider just as a personal preference.

The makers shoots great, it has a very similar shoot to a geo 3.5. We where comparing to one of the geos on my team and the shot was very similar. it had a different sound signature to it and seems to shoot the ball very straight, something that i also like alot. as far as efficiency goes, im not sure about about that, considering that i use a 77 and haven't run out of air before paint yet.

Also maintaining the engine is is very simple. the engine is much simpler than previous generations. Its very straight forward and should be much less intimidating for people whom hasn't worked on them before.

I'd really like them to get away from the rubber detentes and just put sprung plastic detentes in the marker, just because ive seen so many egos chop thru them and well be all know what happens when they don't work anymore. Also once they release the purging reg piston it will be able to degas on its own.

Overall im very happy with this marker and hope macdev keeps up the good work on this platform.

Cons: Changing the grips
Probably the best gun on the market but definitely the best value on the market. it has so many features and things that most other high ends just can't compete with. My clone 5 has the straightest, flattest shot out of anything I've ever owned. when i snap out i can count on my clone putting the ball right where i want it, rather than having to aim a little up so it can lob the balls in. its a little long for a front snake player like myself and it takes a couple core samples of getting used to, but once you get used to it you can take a hard dive into the muddiest snake and count on it to perform even better than any other high end (imho of course). the only bad thing I've yet to find isn't even bad at all: i just noticed that changing the grips can be a little tricky if you're not too familiar with it.

This is a great spooly. It feels great in the hands, Very soft shot and very quiet. The gun comes out of the box in such a highly tuned manner, I've had no need to really tune it to my liking and I've had it since the very first release. This is my very first ever Macdev and Spool marker.
