Manufacturer: Tippmann Sports, LLC., 2955 Adams Center Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46803.

Description: "The 4+5 Harness is packed with premium features including a large capacity pod system, lumbar support and a double wrap belt." (From Tippmann Sports' Facebook press release)

Period of Product Use: Couple of indoor practices

Paintball Experience: 14+ years

Similar Products Used: Dye 4+5, Indian Creek 5+4

Marker Setup: X7 Phenom UMP
Recommended Upgrades: Dye Locklids, because they fit.

Strengths: The double layer belt system lets you get the belt snug and keep it that way without the velcro slipping. The molding on the inner back holds it in place well, with open areas for ventilation. The four reinforced ejection pod holders have the nice grab handles, making it easy to load and unload while wearing, and the 5 tuck away sleeves have bungie straps to keep your lids from popping open. No one wants their balls spilling out on the floor. It's embarrasing.

Weaknesses: It still isn't an easy task to load the five sleeves during a firefight. Some of us guys like to pick up after ourselves and not leave pods all over the field. But they are handy for bringing in paint for teammates.

I like the overall fit of the harness. It's snug and keeps the pods from bouncing too much. While it lacks the lumbar support cushion my Dye has, it has the venting panels in the molded keeper pad that make it more comfortable during long periods of wear. If I'm going to be on the field for longer times, I usually go with the vest - but this is a nice option for enhanced mobility. Overall I love it, same features as my others, with the addition of the camo pattern I already wear.

Paintball Experience: Almost 20 years (1990)

Similar Products Used: None (Generally use harness/vest)

Marker Setup: N/A (Requires tank mounted on marker)

Recommended Upgrades: 140-count pods not included

Strengths: It features a double wrap belt for optimum fit and comfort. It has a thermo mold back with anti-slip pad to prevent slippage. It also has a high capacity of up to 9 140-count pods--four reinforced ejection pod holders and 5 tuck away sleeves.

Weaknesses: One if its unique features, the proprietary Tippmann camouflage pattern, could be seen as a draw back by the GQ players who want everything to match.

Review: The 4+5 Harness is part of Tippmann's new line of tactical gear that is branded with the slogan "Designed for players by players". Over the past couple of years, Tippmann has worked with a number of teams in testing new gear and marker ideas on players to get a better idea of what is important and what isn't.

The first thing I noticed was the heavy duty construction with double-reinforced stitching in the main 'wear and tear' areas. The double wrap belt has several heavy-duty velcro sections to keep the harness snug and secure. The lumbar area is made of a comfortable 'no-slip grip' padding to help keep it from sliding around when running and diving. There are four reinforced pod holder pouches between five double loop pod sleeves. For an indoor team practice, the four pods are plenty. They have the criss-cross velcro ends to help eject a full pod when you need it. The strap ends are heavy duty rubber for a no-slip grip even when you have greasy paint residue on your fingers/gloves. For an all-day game where you would definitely want to carry more paint, you can add an additional five pods to the double loop sleeves. When the sleeves are not being used, they tuck away with velcro to keep them out of the way.

Tippmann's new proprietary digital camouflage is akin to the one used on the Army Combat Uniform (ACU), but it employs a color scheme similar to the old woodland pattern rather than the mottled concrete look of the ACUPAT. When I first noticed it on Tippmann's Facebook page, I thought it was ACUPAT trimmed in green webbing. It wasn't until I actually picked one up that I realized the photos must have been washed out some by a camera flash. The actual digital pattern on the harness is a much deeper shade of greens.

As a member of a mil-sim scenario team, I normally stick to 'military-esque' gear. This year the team will be playing in the UWL and have been looking at different gear set-ups for tournament-style play. The Tippmann 4+5 Harnesses and Special Forces line of pants and jerseys are great products to fill that need.

Conclusion: While I am relatively new to the belt on harness world, the Tippmann 4+5 Harness is very impressive in terms of strength and comfort. I have always been a huge fan of the Tippmann line of markers for their durability. It comes as no surprise that a harness with the Tippmann name would be just as heavy duty. If you like to play indoor and outdoor, try one on at your local field. I'm sure you will be just as impressed.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars.

The Hellions SFG is proud to state that it is officially sponsored by Tippmann Sports. Tippmann gives team members the opportunity to test out new and upcoming markers and other paintball-related gear for a no-nonsense review.

Cons: wears down quick
I have used my tippmann pack for almost two season now. At first I bought it just for fun not expecting much. Never did i think I would be using it over any of my NxE packs. It fits perfect, pods spring out of the loops, and it has plenty of room. I will say it has worn down at a much quicker rater then to what I am use to.

Would recommend to any type of player.
