I'll say Rebel XT because I am a Canon fanboy.. because, on paper and in pictures taken.. it is a better camera.. yes the nikon does beat the XT in some aspects, but all in all the XT takes the cake.. If I were you I would take a look at the Olympus Evolt E300 too.. it comes with two kit lenses.. and its got some pretty interesting features like its dust removing sensor..

I take that back.. after looking over reviews off the E300, it seriously has some bad problems with noise above ISO 100.

But overall, the XT does have the best image quality.. It has almost no noise at ISO 1600!

Are you concerned with how durable the camera feels? also, you can get it cheaper then that.. check this website out http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_g...sterid=7139451

MDKsniper, you're starting to look like you're on a commission, man.

A point by point breakdown of the comparison, omitting the e300:

price: the d70's kit price has come down 100 dollars and they have a rebate out bringing it to 1099, and the kit lens spanks the **** out of the 18-55 the canon comes with.

ISO thing: finer steps for d70 even if it doesn't have ISO 100 (I've griped about it, too)

flash problem: d70 is the only one with an AF assist that doesn't make the flash hop up and preflash, which will have your subject blinking when you take the real picture. Which is bad.

Buffers are equal.

mirror lock up... okay your boys win.

Faster startup time and shutter response (good ****!!) and the viewfinder is pretty good.

Personally? The 350d is too ****ing small for my hands. I shoot a d70 and love it to pieces, though I wish they'd do firmware with MLU and ISO 100 on it. You know they can, I know they can, they just haven't. Plus I stand behind the fact that the 350d felt cheap to me, while the d70 has a little heft to it and feels more quality. I don't like light, cheapy things. If you do, or your hands are those of a 6 year old, by all means go 350d. I vote nikon hands down. More megapixels is useless if it comes with a crappy *** lens that won't render a good picture on them anyway.

Touche with your Nikon plugging. I like Canon, you like Nikon. Yes the kit lens for the canon is not very good thats why I suggested saving the hundred dollars and buying just the body.. and using that cash to get a better lense.. in the end you would end up paying the same for the body + a better lens as the xt + kit lens

Also, to correct Injen.. the startup(on to taking a picture) for the XT is instant (.2 seconds)... your shutter response is indeed better though..

Storm, your going to have to check them both out in a store and then order them online... The XT is really small which can be either a good or bad thing.. good being... it is extremely light and is very portable.. bad being.. it may not be comfortable in your hands, but usually that is only a problem for people that are switching and are used to using bigger cameras... in the end.. it comes down to this... the XT has better image quality.. a few less features, but it feels less durable then the D70.... and the D70 is a feature loaded camera that feels very durable...

i have a XT. And i am probably being bias, but i like it. Ingen lol your being bias too but who cares if its small. It doesnt feel cheap and the kit lense isnt that bad dude. I have seen some real nice pictures taken by other ppl with the kit lense. But have better lenses then the kit lense and you cant tell hte image quality until u zoom really really close and are looking for it. I vote rebel XT probably because im being bias cuz thats what i have, but i love it. thats just my 2 cents

The d70 is equal to that And what quality lens could you possibly by for 100 dollars?

well.. to me its worth it to just not get the lens.. i'd rather buy a good one that i want and would have a major use for like a 50mm macro f2.5 (i'm into shooting frogs and insects)
