installing a hard drive?

I will be buying a new hard drive within a couple days, and my first question is:

are seagate hard drives a good, reliable product?

Secondly, if i have never installing anything on a computer, but have some computer knowledge, will i be fine installing the HDD on my own? Is it as simple as unscrewing the other one, pulling out the cable/ribbon, and doing the reverse process for the new one?

Thanks

Newer seagates are ok, they aren't great, but at least they run. In your case, I do believe it's as easy as replacing the cables. The only thing you would have to worry about is the jumpers, but more than likely you won't have to worry about them.

if your replacing one with another, you have to reformat the hard drive and transfer files you want on it. but basically thats it.

imo for hard drives its

western digital>maxtor>seagate

ok thanks for the speedy responses guys.

Fortunately for me i just reformatted like 2 weeks ago, so all the things i need are already backed up. The reason i have to replace is becuase my old one (80 gig western digi) up and died on my a couple days ago. I lived a long 2 years

Normally, i would have boughten a 120 WD off newegg but my local best buy is selling 120 gig seagates for $50, so thats what ill buy.

On 2k/XP, yes.
