Okay. So my best girl friend one day kind of vanishes. She had been at home sick with what everyone thought was the flu. She had missed about two weeks of school, so her parents decided they better take her to the hospital. I go about a week without hearing from her. So i start to call her cell phone and house phone a lot to try to get a hold of her.
Every time I'd try to call I'd get an automatic answering machine from both her house and cell phone. I start to panic a little and start to call the Dallas hospitals, because that is where she was supposed to be. I call like all of them with no luck. So I decide to move onto Houston since that was where she went last time she was in the hospital. Called all the major hospitals(including the Jewish oness) trying to find her, with no luck.
So I'm looking around on the hospital list, and realize that the hospital that her parents told me she was going to specialized in pediatric surgery's. So I go into google and type in something like Pediatric Hospitals to see what comes up. The first thing is St. Louis Pediatric Hospital. So I click on it immediatly and get their phone number. I figured what the hell its not like I'll lose anything. So I call and sure enough she's in the PICU(pediatric intensive care unit, in case you didnt know).
She's in there for about 2 weeks and finally they take her to a normal room because she returned to a stable condition. They apparently tried to cauterize(sp?) her heart to try to rid the bacteria that had somehow found its way into her heart. The operation failed and they brought her back up to good condition.
I get a call from her and she tells me that she has to get a new heart, and she could be on the waiting list for up to 3months. Of course I'm immediatly relieve to hear shes okay.
So I call her cell phone a few days ago and its off. I try to call her room and the people that answer were another childs parents(in case your wondoring my friend is 16 shes just very petite). I ask for my friend and they say shes no longer in the room.
I call up the patient information and ask for my friend. I get transfered to the PICU. The first thing that came to my head is that she could be getting her sugery soon.
Has this happened to anyone else? Im just wondoring how it went and what happened to their lives after they procedure. Any help would be much appreciated
