This has been happening to alot of users lately. Heres what you need to do:
When you have uploaded the pic that you want in your avatar scroll back up to the top of the page; and make sure that the default avatar is not checked (the guy that you have in your avatar right now); if the circle that is next to the default avatar is not filled in then scroll down and click submit. This tends to happen alot......so try that; and see if it works.
