What would you recommend for barrels?

Hey, i just got my viking, and am looking for some barrels.

My stock Javelin is a .687.

I will either get a small bore, .685 maybe? and a larger one, .691?
or what other sizes would you recomend? (either 2 or 3)

Or i would get a barrel set, CP or J and J. ( possibly a freak, but i would rather not).

Which do you think would be better?

Get a toal Freak system, say you get 2 Boomsticks, the price of them alone would be the cost of the Total Freak System.

I thought that Freaks butchered your air efficiency... same goes with other 2 piece barrels. Maybe you should consider Lapco or a CP 1 piece? Dunno, ask them.

I was thinking freak, but i also heard there were lots of problems with them, and they dont shoot as nice as 2 boomys. And the fact that your air effeciency is screwed.

I would also suggest a Freak. If the Boomstick shoots any better, it's not really noticeable. Personally, I loved the Freak when I tried it out. If the gas efficiency thing scares you (doesn't really have anything to do with the fact that it's not a 1 peice barrel), try not to get a Freak longer than 12", and use the tightest bore insert you can afford to use with your paint.

i ran a freak with a 14 '' AA front at a tourney this weekend. I tagged sopme guy on the tip of his foot sticking out of the bunker....
the excal is so efficent who cares if you lose 100 shots? At world cup i dropped 7 pods with a 68 4500 and still had air to burn running a freak.

I'd recommend the freak too, it shoots flawlessly. You are probably hearing of bad experiences with the freak when it first had 'SmartParts' milled on it, but the new freaks w/ 'Freak' milled on it are fine. They had some quality control problems or something like that-

A new 12" AA would not have horrible gas efficiency, but a Teardrop will, up close it looks like 75% holes! SmartParts says they've noticed the AA's are a little more accurate & a lot easier to clean out when a ball breaks then the Teardrops-

the freak is the way to go. with a gun as efficient as the excal, what you may lose due to porting and other reasons will not be noticed. i used the 14inAAfreak with excal and 45/45 and played all day. plus with the freak, a great paint/sleeve match will further enhance your efficiency.

The Warped Sportz one is just a CP set, with some warped logos. I think i may go for the freak now.... Just need to find a place that has the AA fronts too.

Try Paintballistix, they can also get you the new 12in AA front and a stainless freak back total system for 250. Your choice!

I have not heard anything about these barrels. My freak has smart parts in it, and I have not noticed anything goofy with it. What is suppose to be wrong with them?

I use 16" JT for 686 and 690, and a DYE Ti 16" for 688... works fine.

Oh and btw, the cost for those was about half that of a freak which uses orings for inserts which can never be "perfect." Now one of you smarty pants will say, "well your two pieces aren't perfect either," yup that's right, but the difference is, my two pieces don't have inserts that can get damaged very easily, and if tweaked in the slightest, will lead to piss poor accuracy.

Mike

if you dont want to get a freak, i think what barrel you get depends on the type of paint your going to be using all the time. for instance im using the stock barrel..... it shoots awsome with pmi premiums.

I heard they screwed up with the milling of the back part making the inserts not fit quite right. Having problems with quality control doesn't mean every single set is screwed up-I hope this clears thing up for you

If I could afford to buy a Boomstick in every bore size then that would be my first choice. As it is I own a freak system. When I first bought my freak it had a 12" teardrop front and I hated it! I switched to an AA tip and it is a huge improvement, however, I still use my Boomsticks if they fit the paint I am using because I get fewer breaks and they clean on the field better.

J&J just came out with a new series of barrels. I think its called the EDGE set. the bores are .685, .689, and .693 I think. I think the price was around $150.
