i was just wondering if you can chrome plate aluminun please enlighten me

yes you can, I checked into it a while back when I thought about plating some raw halves, I found a cheaper way though, Ill try to post pics tonight.

Id suggest you get these, already raw, and if you have the money to blow, go for chrome plating. There was no one local and I never pursued getting prices.

The great thing about the above item, is with elbow grease (lots), sandpaper (lots), and a healthy dose of mothers mag, they come out like this. I havent done any work to the inside yet, wanted to show what the raw looked like vs polished. I still want to go down another grain in sandpaper, cant polish out a few scratches, maybe 1000 grit.




Note the reflection of my hand in the last shot, I blurred it a little moving in the shot, but you get the idea.

yes you can have it plated but it takes a few step process to plate it.. due to the fast oxdation of alum (the reason why just polisihing isnt the best option in the long run) they plater will need to zincate the alum to stop the oxidation. if they dont stop the oxidation before they plate it will eventualy cause the plating to flake off.. after they zincate the body they might need to run it through a copper palting process (this fills in most of the pits and scratches in the body) after that they nickel then chrome plate (you can bypass the nickel coat but the shine isnt as good). hope this cleared things up

i used acetone to take off the paint and it was a breeze

ill post pics if i get a chance oh yea..i got a quote and they said it would be around 15 bucks for the plateing

$15 sounds way too cheap. Especially if it's triple plated as Dager mentioned, which by the way is the only way you should ever chrome aluminum. Just make sure you know what your getting.

if they do a good job $15 thats a hell of a deal.. just make sure they at least zincate the alum.. if not the plating wont last.

so far ive only seen standard M98 halves but check with countypaintball.com (their ad is up top) they sell the raw halves and would know better if you can purchase customs yet.

yah country has the custom halves, they arnt raw and dont have milling ( which is a pain )

I also heard that you cant chrome plate from wolf paintball because the type of alum. is to soft.

you can plate it no matter what type of alum.. actualy the base coat in the plating process (if done properly) is copper wich is ALOT softer than alum.
