Now don't quote me on this, but I have a guess on what it may do for the model 98. It might reduce the recharge time allowing you to achieve higher rates of fire.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong, I'm not exactly a model 98 buff.

They won't hinder you're performance at all. They are just set at different tensions. Red being the highest, then green (I think) and then blue (can't quite remember the order, but I know red was the highest.) At any rate, if you have a regulator you can put the red spring in, which hits the valve harder, holding it open longer, and lower your operating pressure. I got a low pressure chamber at countypaintball.com and went down to the green spring, and dropped my operating pressure to 400-450psi. Home made LP kit for $45. The advantage to lower pressure is less breaks in the breech and barrel. The disadvantage is it uses more air. But since the 98 is a gas hog to begin with the difference is nominal. Ok, that was way off topic, but hopefully it'll give you something to tinker with.
