Ball Detent mod, any reason I shouldn't try

What do you think about milling out my ball detent slots to fit a DM4 ball detent, i.e. thicker/shorter with less replacement? I'll also have to mill out my tribal covers and get rid of my bolt's front o-ring and mill slots for the detents.

Any disasters that you can think of before I do this? It will be done at a machine shop that makes Boeing parts, not in my garage or by myself. Thanks!

Guys that I play with haven't changed their DM4 detents since christmas and don't double feed. Sounds like they are pretty durable.

I see people rockin' their timmy's with paint in their barrel porting from double feeds.

Oh, and my ND sheared the detents in the first 100 balls, new out of the box. I figure if it mod works on the 2k2, I'll do the dog next.

Have them drill/tap a hole for angel or impulse detents. The cocker ones are too big, plus the angel/impulse ones look better. You have to also drill a hole in your eye cover, but as long as its a good machine shop (which is sounds like yours is) it will look very clean. I saw one on here a while ago and I've wanted to have it done since... I just havent gotton around to it.

I have personally used the Evil and Shocktech Timmy bolts... I was having major ball breakage issues with the Evil bolt, and once I changed to the Shocktech, it was cured... I cupped the faces and they cradled the balls nicely (no puns) however, the evil broke paint.

BTW, both are slotted for dual detents.. the evil had 3 orings and the shocktech has none.

Do not get DM4 detents they wear out really fast. Get DM5 detents, they are kinda like cocker detents.

dm4 detents will be fine. I suggest using impulse ones tho, only because they'll look the cleanest
