Radar Detector?

Hey i just got a 99 silverado for my first car, and i'm already paying a alot for insurance. Obviously with this vehicle im not gonna be doing alot of racing, but i do want to have at least a small edge against the law. My question is, what(in your opinion) is the best radar detector for around $175. I know that the valentine and the x50 are both good and everyone always say not to go cheap with this. But i just want a pretty good detector for around 175 buck. Thanks

It may be expensive, but it's the best out there.

You may be able to find a used Passport 8500, K40, or even a Valentine 1 on eBay for $175ish. Look around, I'm sure you'll find something.

friend has the valintine. it works wonders. we have a toll road here in so cal, and one day we went a little over a 100mphs (i know big deal) but the detector spoted a cop that was hiding in some brush. that saved us a trip to jail.

I don't do much high way driving and not looking to spend to much on a dector, I may drive on the high way once a month but I do speed on the bigger roads around here that are like 45mph roads and I tend to do easily 10 over usually 15-20. Are the Cobra's that are like $89 you see at like ABC Wharehouse and Circuit City pretty good for what I'm gonna use it for, I mean I won't use it that often. I'm thinking like the 10band one's with the emergency band that alerts you of like ambulances aswell.

valentines are better why? Range, it is simply better. This is obviously the biggest factor because the more range you have the more warning you have. The arrows on the valentine 1, are a big help, they just make the whole experience easier. And uh, the noise is better off a Valentine, more alertive, kind of a trivial noise, but it gets ur attention more. Thats all I can think of for now.

About why they are better its because it has 2 antenas one that detects the front and one for the back, so it has much better range..

sorry. my point was to say that all he was doing was stating an opinion. I know that the 8500 x50's and the valentines are two of the best in the business, my opinion on that has never changed. But the way he stated how valentines are the best was done in a very blunt way.

Back on topic. has anyone had any experience with the bel rx55 and the 995
