The question

Well, I just sold a quad I had and got 3000 out of the deal(the 300ex I posted earlyier on). Now im thinking of helping my brother build that 55 chevy I posted earlyier. We are going to redo the whole driveline, replace the breaking system with a cameros. Now the first choice is the engine. 383 stroker, 396, 454 or 502? Im going to buy a rebuild engine, so a 502 is barley in my price range is my guess. What one would everyone sugest? keep in mind these aren't ever going to be on the bottle or super charged. Along with that we are swapping the tranny with a turbo 400 automatic.

Yah im not sure about the 502, I don't really see many people using them. Its just a overbore of a 454, but if many people don't use them is there something wrong with them, or are they more than most people want to spend?

502 is a good motor...look around...you will see them all over

you can build a potent 383 for a decent price and easily get 500hp out of it...small block parts are cheaper and you have a bunch of head/cam combos

you could build a 450hp vortec 383 for cheap

heads= $600
intake = $175
shortblock = $1500-$2500 (give or take)
cam= $100-300 (roller?)
and other misc. crap needed
