I can't wait to see all the sweet new gear coming out! John, do you have any hints of new products coming out for us to drool over for the next month and a half?

I am looking forward to seeing if someone has come up with a viable box mag that is ready to come to market as an alternative for the Dye Box Rotor.

My dream set up is a mag fed marker that I can use FSR in a ~20 round mag for targets at range and round ball in a box mag for laying down mid to close range fire, on a platform that is not 2 grand (aka. dye dam).

Also hopping Dye releases an I5 in Dyecam so I can pull the trigger on a new mask.

Either way new paintball gear is always a good thing, makes me excited to get out there an play more in 2017.

Too bad it's not open for the general public to go in and see the new stuff. I wouldn't mind paying $5-10 even. Why shut yourself off from the fans of the sport?

I've heard some things. The Bob Long / Field One Pinnacle was just posted here in News...

This is an event for dealers and fields. That's why.
You want to create a good relationship with them, and all the general public would get in the way of that happening.

I understand that part, but why not have the general public attend to see new stuff as well? Not necessarily "buy" those things...or maybe so. At least they would get the new products into the hands of players early to get real field feedback.

That Field/Dealer relationship is not diminished by having the players there as well. If anything, it's an even better opportunity to have the players voice the opinions to their fields, and then directly to the Dealers/Vendors.

There are plenty of "players" at this event. Same as SHOT show in the firearms industry. Start sucking up to a local field owner this year and you can go next year and feel like a hot shot.

Unfortunately, it would be completely diminished by having lots more players there too.

Think of how a dealer feels at World Cup. This is his lively hood and he can't talk about pricing, markup, availability in quantity or advertising programs because his sales rep has to talk to dozens or even hundreds of players too.

Extravaganza has a different feel because virtually everyone there is trying to grow their business. No one is interrupting to ask strictly player oriented questions.

Fields are a local business. If you as a player want to voice your opinion, go visit them. Literally every other paintball event is geared towards the player. If you want to voice your opinion to a national level business, go to a major event or post it online.

I can't wait to see all the new gear. I kind of hate this time year. We have winter for another 3 to 4 months. All the new gear comes out. If I buy anything new I have to sit here and stare at it. Are you going to show us any photos of up coming products? Like you have in the past where you really can't see what the actual product is. We can just barely make out the outlines and then we have a month-and-a-half of speculation and hearsay....

As a new owner in the Paintball industry, I will be there. And John is right about keeping extravaganza for industry people only. Its a better environment for us to talk candidly about strategies with manufacturers. Saying that much, possibly opening to public on the last day would be the best of both worlds?

I wonder how players (i.e. non industry types) would come out who aren't local.

A good first strategy would be to actually ship product and not just cancel orders without letting customers know why.

Most vendors bring one of each item to the show, they are not prepared to sell retail product, which would mean bringing huge amounts of retail product. They are showing product to stores or fields to order and stock at their own retail locations. Most of these vendors do not sell direct to players, the idea is to create relationships with stores and fields, so everyone can profit. There is already too much direct sales, which hurt small stores and fields in the retail paintball business already. We hear of stores failing, due to online sales quite frequently.

I hate going to tradeshows at tournaments or events, because I can't get good "one-on-one" time with the vendors. We can't talk wholesale prices, or deals. Someone is always playing with markers making so much noise, and you can barely talk to someone. If you want, as players to see new and interesting stuff and to buy it, go to World Cup or other events. Those are for you.

The Paintball Extravaganza is a business to business (B2B) show, and that's the way it should be. If you want to attend, talk to your local field or store, become a tech or a manager, and you could attend and earn technical certificates from lots of vendors. You then have access to the floor and all that new product.

Your local field or store should be in attendance (their attendance shows support for the "Business of Paintball"), and should be blogging or posting all the cool stuff on the first day, so they can get feedback on what are the hot products. The more fields and stores attending, the better this event becomes. I learn lots just socialising with other field and store owners and manufacturers, along with great classes from successful Paintball Businesses. The more support for the Paintball Business-Industry, the more everyone can do to help grow the "Business of Paintball".

I attend to show my unwavering support for "Paintball Business". It's a great "Paintball Business". Too many fields and stores are only looking for what's in it for me, but the whole "Business of Paintball" needs to come together so we can grow. The Laser Tag Industry Association has targeted paintball players to grow their business, and it's working. Laser Tag are growing against us. If you think the Paintball field down the road is your competition, they are not. The entertainment dollar is your competition, and you need a bigger piece of that pie, and we all benefit from growth that way, otherwise we are fighting over an ever small piece of the Paintball pie.
The manufacturers want to grow and sell more paintballs, not just move paintballs from one field to another, that doesn't grow their business. They want you as field to take business from the entertainment pie, and everyone sell more paintballs.

Paintball doesn't have a "Paintball Business Association" to help defend "Paintball Business", when it's under attack. We've had some great players, industry leaders and manufacturers step up to help, but we don't have a "Paintball Voice", representing the 1,000 fields and stores across North America. The Paintball Extravaganza (PBX) is our only "Paintball Business Show", and maybe it could grow to become the "Paintball Business Show" for our own "Paintball Business Organisation". There have been many attempts to create a "Paintball Business Association", and all have failed. Paintballers are too independent and untrusting of good intentions, but the PBX seems to have found a bit of middle ground, I hope it can grow from there. If the PBX grows, so does our "Paintball Business", and so does the support of the vendors, stores and fields. Numbers (fields, store, manufacturers, industry players) do count and show support.

Please think about supporting your "Paintball Business Show", the Paintball Extravaganza (PBX)! And thank-you to everybody who does support the "Business of Paintball".
