MEDIA ALERT: WISCONSIN BAN ON PAINTBALL IS 1 STEP AWAY

[From the State of Wisconsin -- Proposed: NR 45.04(3)(q) Paint balls. No person may use paint balls, paint ball guns or any other type of paint ball equipment on department lands.]

Wisconsin is about to ban paintball totally on more than 1,000,000 acres of forests and lands administered by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. A paintball industry rep has contacted the chairperson of the State Natural Resources Committee, who refuses to set a hearing for the paintball community to educate the lawmakers, to try to get the wording modified so that it's less restrictive. There is no exception to this ban, no way to get a permit, this is a total ban.

The hearing has to be set now - tomorrow - or paintball will be banned on the lands.

The only thing that stands a chance of changing this would be a flood of calls or emails from Wisconsin residents. Paintball players or business owners in Wisconsin, and paintball supporters, can use the list below to tell the legislators to set a hearing so the paintball community can be heard:

¤ You're asking the committee to set a hearing, so they can learn why the paintball community wants them to block or make major changes to NR 45.04(3)(q), which is unfairly restrictive to the sport of paintball and does not reflect input from the paintball community.

¤ You're a Wisconsin resident -voter -businessperson (whichever is true).

¤ You may suggest that the committee members, at a minimum, confer with representatives of the Paintball Products Manufacturers Association on this regulation.

If you know anyone who's a paintball player and/or business owner in Wisconsin, please pass this on to them.

And if you're not in Wisconsin yourself, you can write or call – let them know where you are from, and that the paintball community wants and deserves to be heard.

If you don't act, not only does this have a strong negative impact in Wisconsin, but it sets a precedent that could be followed by other states.

Below is the list of people to contact -- and remember, be polite, but be firm.

You have power. Use it wisely.

State of Wisconsin, House of Representatives, Natural Resources Committee

Chairperson DuWayne Johnsrud

Vicechairperson Scott Gunderson

Representatives on the Committee:

Neal J. Kedzie;
Judy Krawczyk;
Dan Meyer;
Alvin Ott;
Mark Pettis;
Michael Powers;
Barbara Gronemus;
John Lehman;
John P. Steinbrink;
Mark Miller;
Martin Reynolds

Phone numbers, for their capital and their home office district, are on the web - http://www.legis.state.wi.us/assembly/asmhomepages.html - look up the person to find the phone numbers and addresses. Best bet is to both write and call.

Ok folks, I got this back from my old team mate Jessica over at APG, so it is confirmed as REAL. WE MUST do something about this to help, or it COULD get a ball rolling - the WRONG way. The E-Mail addresses to write to is at the very bottom.

THIS IS ABSOLUTELY TRUE

I have tried to get the chairman of the committee, Johnsrud, to set a
hearing. He refused. He would not talk to me, sent word through his
staffer.

This has been hiding in committee and Dept. Natural Resources for months.
If no body in pball saw this BAN, then it was hidden extremely well. I
made that point to his office.

All the committee members need to hear from paintball. Rep. Johnsrud's
office needs that phone to ring off the hook and the email box to overflow
with people saying SET A HEARING ... LET US BE H EARD

anything you can post PLEASE POST TONIGHT PLEASE

IF WE DONT GET THIS TOMORROW WE ARE DONE .... OUT OF TIME......

By FRIDAY THIS WILL BE A LAW UNLESS WE GET A HEARING.

Uhm,..excuse my ignorance, but isn't it good that people aren't playing paintball in the forest by themselves without chronographs and proper protection?

Timebomb, if this is cause for concern to my old team mate Jessica Sparks (editor of Paintball, co-editor of APG), then there is a REAL reason to be scared! She is not just some kid, or naive. She was one of the early founders of some of the original paintball organizations back in the 80's. She was also a lawyer here in SoCal. She KNOWS what is important more than any of the rest of us, cause she is an insider with years under her belt. You might not remember it, not knowing how old you are, but we fought a tough battle years ago against the proposed TOY "REPLICA" GUN law that would have lumped paintball guns into it, thus effectively killing paintball forever. And when we tried to get the NRA to help us, they washed their hands of us saying cause we point our guns at another human. So we fought alone.

As I am not there, I can not say if this concerns only pirate games, but if Jessica thinks its an issue, then it must mean that there are real fields out there too that will be efected. And come on, you know how the government works. Just look at all the HATE SMOKERS campaigns all over the place? It gets larger and larger, with more and more HATE spewing forth on the radios. It gets easier as it snowballs. And so too with this, evne if it does not concern a real field at this moment. If this passes, it sets a precedent that can be used to snowball to other states - and be easier and easier each time its used. We MUST make a stand now!

This Is Sick!

Damn, what's happening. Why is this rule going to be in effect. This is way unfair to those who play in Wisconsin, and I think this will set off a chain reaction of other states. There is already a paintball ban in Brigewater, MA, close to my hometown. This is a kick in the pants for paintball, people still just think we're all a bunch of punk kids who vandilize stuff. I partly blame this on Wal-Mart, who sell paintball products to minors without parentes permission. Then they go and vandilize and it gives all of us a bad name. I got an idea, how bout we ban Wal-Mart paintball. That would be the first step in clearing paintballs name. This is rediculus They have NO Idea about our sport. Mother ****ing fat *** polititions.

EVERYONE WHO READS THIS THREAD, EMAIL A POLITITON AND HELP THEM GET A HEARING!

WOW!! this is horrid news. First thing i read when i woke up. If there was ever a time when the paintball community needed to come together, now is the time. We need to handel this very carefully, not writting people swearing calling then morons, this needs to be delt with very fastly, and cafefully. Maybe PBnation, could send a e-mail, from all it's users telling what we think, and how they need to meet with the paintballers of wisconsin. Something needs to be done, if one state does it others may follow!!

does anyone know where we can get a transcript of the proposed bill? because right now it sounds like they are just trying to protect national forests or parks.

The problem with this type of legislation is that, should it pass, it will be a little easier to pass the next ban on paintball the next time, and that ban will be just a little more restrictive. Then the next, then the next, and so forth.

You can't decide this is ok and let it ride because, as you see it, it's just about stopping outlaw ball. This erodes our rights as players which will eventually hurt all of us.

Legislation is not always bad, but when it doesn't take any facts about the sport into account and passes judgment with no firm foundation, it's hard to take.

What is paintballs safety record again?

Angry Ban in WI

I just heard about the Ban in WI. I play in MN and our tournament curcuit is called the Polar Bear which involves a stop in WI and we have a large number of Wi teams that play in our tournaments. Best of luck to them and I hope that they get a hearing. All of the members from our team is going to write in to help the cause.

Every little bit helps.:

what i wrote

Dear U.S. state representatives of Wisconsin

My name is Tony Kessler a resident of Pennsylvania and I am an avid paintball participant. I have been playing for little over two years after my parents bought me my first pump type paintball marker. While online at www.pbnation.com i saw a huge banner proclaiming "Media Alert: Wisconsin Ban On Paintball Is 1 Step Away". I went on to read that this is ban would only be effective on department lands. What type of problem has there been that would urge you to take such drastic action. The article also states that you are not having a public hearing about the matter, there needs to be one so the paintball community can be heard. There are too many people in the U.S. who play and understand the sport of paintball to let this happen to their sport.

Thank you for your time,
Tony Kessler

so by that rational when government passes drunk driving laws or posts speed limits the state is slowly taking away all cars. It's not because they are trying to make a certain environment safer for everyone. If the state didnt like paintball they would ban everything all at once. I think there may be more to it.

Out law ball

If its called out-law ball then why does legislation need to be passed on it? If its already illegal then its already illegal. It would be my assumption that either A) this is step towards government control of paintball which would include the need for a license and special taxes on paintballers or B) and hopefully B just to define the terms of out-law ball and set up the correct punishment (fines etc.) for breaking the laws.

My question is what do they have against people playing ball out on that land? I'm sure not many people use it. And paintball isn't damaging to the enviroment. The only prob I could see is a bunch of jerk hill-billys leaveing their garbage out on the property.
OR is this nature reserve land. If its a public park then let the public use it.

I included to the committee in my e-mail "Don't knock it til you try it" Bet if they played just once they wouldn't pass the legislation.
