Alternative Web Browsers
Anyone running Windoze and use something other than IE or Netscape? I downloaded CipherNet 1.1 and I actually like it. It 'uses' IE like the bizitch it is, but it has some cool built in features like a pop-up killer, FTP client and MP3 player. Just something different to toy with.
I also downloaded ViOS as well, a D3D web browser that lets you jump from site to site with w 3d GUI and it also lets you walk around and fly in the web in a very Everquest-like fashion. Interresting, but I didn't take the time to really figure it out.

Would you recomend Ciphernet over windows? I'll be looking into it.. Those features sound interesting.

I like it better, but thats just me. Seems like a slimed down version of IE with a new GUI and no BS features, only features you would want to use. It does have a 'send mail' option but it crashed when I tried to use it, but that might be because I uninstalled Outlook express. The drop down menus are transparent too, which is cool, unfortunately I cant import bookmarks.

MSIE has ftp built in too... I use it all the time on my Win2k box.
Have you tried Opera? I've used that on a Windows box and it seemed nice.

Yes, like, ftp://###.etc, but I never liked that. This new browser has a client, like WSFTP, just feels better to me. I did not download Opera because it was listed as Adware, I stuck to the Freeware when choosing a new browser.

one of the guys i work with put opera on the machine there (hes the only one without a laptop and thus is the only person that really uses it). dunno if he likes it or not, but he did get it. ill wait until next wednesday (i only work there on wed) and ask him about it. in the meantime, ill download ciphernet. i hate popups. all they do is swallow my bandwidth alive, and i dont have enough of that as it is.

I am running Galeon under FreeBSD, not sure what you run, but they also have the RPM's for redhat. Pretty much its based on gecko, what mozilla is rendered in, and is pretty light interfaced.

Yeah, it has a little ad in it until you register.
It has cool mouse shortcuts though.

Dez: I DLed Opera for OS X for ha has, and for OS X at least, there's no ads for 30 days. So you could try it ad free.

So how do you prevent the ads beyond 30 days?

Im sure you can find some sort of crack by doing a search on one of those computer "security searches".
