voice-recognition programs

Any of you use voice recognition programs? I recently developed tendonitis, so I managed to get "dragon, speaking naturally." I guess the novelty hasn't worn off yet. The program has to be trained to know my voice and I've trained a bit every day. Still odd talking to a computer screen, especially with other people around.

That actually was a good program, but the company that made it was bought out, so there won't be further versions. Thats how WindowsXP-Plus got its voice recognition software.

I always wondered how they worked. Like how do they know when to put in the commas, semi-colons, periods etc. Do you have to say "the boy went to town period(for the period) or does it automatically do it.

Im not sure, if it was like that what would you do if you had to say "During the period of time in which emperor Constatine was in rule of the Byzantine Empire, he moved the capital to Constantinople (modern day Istambul)."

Would it put a period where you say period? And how would you insert parenthesis?

Well, the words are regarded as context sensitive. The program would know that if you were saying:

I ate a hamburger
or
My number is 832....
You're supposed to speak clearly and naturally, not slowly or one word at a time.

punctuation is inserted by saying the punctuation, a mild pause between them and the words, like:

I went to the store (coma) but it was closed (period)

Also, along with training the prog to recognize what you say, you can correct it's interpretation on that particular word, so it interprets that word every time. Also, I had to add in my usual list of slang. Can you believe that a speech prog does not have woohoo in it?

Anyway, I'm adding commands for starting up other programs. Quite nifty.

I don't really, know, it seems like a tossed in gimmick for Plus to get people to buy it if you ask me, I've never used it.
