it should take the dye but watch out for warping and swelling (both are possible)

may weaken the plastic and wont turn up on black but what you can do is put ducktape over what you want dyed and it will come out like alligator skin and electrical tape completely covers what ever its put on

the duck tape you put over where you want to dye do to the ducktape having small strings threw it the reason its strong also lets the dye bleed threw but the strings wont so it makes it look like aligator skin the electrical tape is like another blocker the dye cant soak threw tada

there should be no shrinkage, swelling or weakening of the plastic...unless you used outrageously hot boling water for long perids of time (Basically you'd have to use a pressure cooker)
the dye is in such small amounts and the water temp is WAY below the melting point of the plastics you are dyeing that they should not affect the materials in any way...
but!!!!!
NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER mess with lenses...if you want a tinted lens go buy one.

Auto tint works on lens without doing any damage.

Just tried a new project... Yellow dye job on a Halo.
The body is polycarbonite, just like an eggy. Polycarbonite is a pretty hard plastic, and it takes boiling temp to get the dye to work into the plastic. There is one difference; the lid is made out of a softer material, and I just screwed up my brand new hopper lid. Oh well, learn from my mistakes!
